  1. Colin, a tad unfair. The 14W motor was fitted to the later cars in the series, and certainly later spitfires and GT6 had that motor.  And technically no, most wiper motors couldn't be fitted. But you knew that. Sorry Clive, didn't mean to be unfair, but the OP wanted a 2-speed MK1 motor and it is true that by changing the mounting, wiring and drive gear then you can fit almost any motor, and I'll modify the post to say 'almost'. Mini, MGB, Triumph, it just depends on how you want it to look. I don't think it was being unfair, or sarcastic, to point this out - fitting an alternative item, even one from another Triumph, can mean a lot of work to someone who may not be able to fabricate their own mount, adapt the loom, calculate angles, and source the correct drive gear from a selection. If the car is a Mk1 then it's not unfair to assume that it already has the loom connections, and switch for, the 2-speed, unless it's missing absolutely everything and has to be sourced from scratch. So: I was trying for the straightforward option, an original replacement that will require minimum work, and am still looking. I'm sorry Roger took it this way; I was expecting a reply along the lines of: "well, it's not that difficult, this is what I did..." sort of thing. I didn't think it was being silly, or being an idiot. It's certainly not sarcastic, but a valid point, and one which I hoped would invite discussion and debate. 
  2. Technically then any motor will fit provided you knock up a mounting, convert the wiring and change the drive gear?    
  3. Sweep angle is 130 degrees. If it's just like for like then you'll have the switch and cabling already installed. It doesn't have the spade connectors on the end; there are three bullet-connected cables which emerge from the end plate, so that's an easy way to weed out the incorrect versions. 
  4. Gasket looks okay ie the correct one; can you supply any photos of the actual head? Do you have any of the head fitted?  
  5. Bought them at the stoneleigh spares day last year at about 330% of the retail price, bargain! Really should fit them. That's quite a difference, but not sure if it worked out more, or less.... :)

The legs of the H-frame are cut away at the bottom to fit into the chassis, so make sure you have them in the correct location; secondly you can't fit it on top of the gearbox tunnel and carpet as this will raise it too much. You may need to cut the gearbox tunnel away to allow the H-frame to sit directly on the chassis. I had to cut both tunnel and carpet on my Mk1 before it would fit in place, but when it goes in you'll know it's in the right place.

Not a CT member, but appreciate the things that are being done on the behalf of visitors like me to allow greater access to the forum.  If so, as a 'foreigner'(!) can I make a small point that hopefully won't cause offence? Limit the signatures at the bottom of the posts. On some topics the signatures actually take up more of the page space than the posts. It's ridiculous having a signature of almost thirty lines on the bottom of every one of your posts, when your reply is often one word, or one line... If you must post your life story, please do it in your profile?
  8. All GT6 Mk1 have the twin reversing lights as standard fitment. Early MK2 had them in a slightly different position (they have no vertical rear overrider to get in the way) and the last MK2s, the facelift versions from KC75000-odd had the central reversing light on the number-plate shroud, same as (I think) Spitfire Mk3. Entirely up to yourself as to where you want to fit them on your Mk1, if you don't want them in the original positions; if you do, measure twice and cut once and make sure the drill bit can't slip along the paintwork.  
  9. Can I be cheeky and ask what they're charging? I'm getting very high prices for a Herald block that requires little work, so I'd be interested to know what other companies ask for boring cylinders.
  10. I spoke to Rimmers and the one they insist is the right part has a side tube; mine does not have a side tube. So what do I do with the tube outlet? Or are they wrong about the part? They're selling a one-size-fits-all four cylinder version which will fit the 1200 if you either fit a breathable cap or else a small filter on the pipe, but the Herald doesn't originally have one and this is more for a take-off to the carbs for later Spitfires etc. I'd guess that filler nozzle will be too broad to allow one of the early breather caps to fit?

  14. That's EXACTLY what I wanted to hear, Tony. I was hoping that was the case but it's great to have confirmation. Now: all I have to do is to get the mountings adapted to fit Triumphs, and I'll have a pair of working and fittable rectangular headlamps.
