  1. A futile attempt to classify the cars: Base Model Count 1 Acclaim 1 Ajax 12 GT6 8 Herald 3 Saloon 30 Southern Cross 1 Spitfire 21 Stag 18 TBC 1 TR3 2 TR4 4 TR6 4 TR7 5 TR8 2 Vitesse 4 Grand Total 117 Ajax = Any small saloon (Dolomite, Toledo, FWD) Saloon = Any big saloon or derived model (sorry, lumped the estates into this for simplicity)
  2. I have a couple of air ratchets, a 3/8" and 1/2" - neither get used very often.
  3. I got my impact wrench long before cordless electric ones were a thing, it's a CP734H: I noticed a couple of weeks ago when stripping some Spitfire rear hubs/shafts down it seemed a bit gutless. So I ordered a tune up kit and last night stripped it down, cleaned it and renewed the motor vanes, o-rings, seals and re-lubricated it. It's back to kicking like a mule now. That's what I like about branded tools - I can get spares and give them a new lease of life.
  4. Hi there, Is anyone able/willing to pick a Spitfire rear wing (paid for!) up from Canleys and either hang on to it until I can get down to the area to pick it up OR fetch it a bit closer to me in West Yorkshire?
  5. Got one of the (more complicated) patches made, fitted and welded in yesterday, slow going but at least it's progress. Also tidied the garage a bit AND stripped my impact driver down to fit the rebuild kit.
  6. Nope won't be at Stoneleigh, but maybe I could prevail on somebody who is to "pony express" stuff a bit closer to home.
  7. Nice one Tim! My 2 subscriptions are lapsing at the moment, but as soon as the cars are back on the road I'll be re-subscribing.
  8. Needs repairs/patching and already has some patching, but the outriggers etc look in reasonable condition (it's the main rails that have the rot) No paperwork/V5 etc. just a very bare chassis. No suspension turrets. Free to anyone that wants it - I'll hang on to it for another 3 or 4 weeks and then I need the space. Any interest? Happy to take some photos if anyone wants. If not I'll cut the outriggers off and scrap the rest.
  9. Found more rust in "mot fail" places on the Spitfire, very disappointing as I was starting to think it was ready to go back on the road. The process of cutting it out and replacing with good metal has begun.
  10. A while ago I got one of these: A (relatively) cheap oscillating multi-tool. Then I bought a (relatively) expensive carbide blade for it. It's been great for cutting bolts seized into rear suspension uprights/hubs / dolomite trailing arm bushes and cutting out rusty body work in places where I can't get the grinder in without hitting other areas. £38 quid in total (tool+blade) and it's already saved me a ton of effort messing about with hacksaw blades etc. 🙂
  11. I'm looking for a pair of front brake calipers for the Spitfire to refurb - so don't have to be "like new" but I'd rather avoid any with broken off bleed valves or pistons welded into the bores with rust? Anyone got any?
  12. I bought: UKC5334 ENGINE MOUNTING RUBBER From Paddocks back in 2012, fitted them probably 12 months after and the still seem ok. But who knows if they are still the same?
  13. I wouldn't want to go anywhere near anything that odious turd had owned.
  14. Ordered a John Deere one to give it a try, price wise it sat nicely between the "cheap as chips" and "arm and a leg" price ranges. I'll see how I get on with it.
  15. I'm getting a bit sick of my cheapo grease gun, anyone recommend one that takes 400g cartridges? I don't want a 20 quid special (unless there's a specific one that's BRILLIANT) and at the same time don't want to be spending 100s... any ideas?
  16. Pair of short Spitfire rear shafts, sold to me as "Spitfire 1500" but clearly not. I stripped them down from the uprights etc, so they are marked L and R for the side they came off and I know that marking is accurate. Bearing areas etc look ok, no serious marks. £50 collected from Halifax West Yorkshire or via CT pony express. £60 posted.
  17. Another one that I don't need. FH prefix Spitfire IV diff (3.89:1) I have no idea of the state of the internals or the provenance, all I know is it's not the 3.63 I wanted! Seems to turn ok, but that's as far as I went with it. £50 if buyer collects (Halifax, West Yorks) or CT pony express or courier at buyers expense.
  18. Hey @reychris Andie and I are interested, probably in the Spitfire again this time.
  19. Well, take Jane out for a meal. Chinese is a great meal for an anniversary? 😉
  20. Would love too, but can't make the date 😞 One of these years I'll make it to one of the Dutch rallies.
  21. A really "productive" time in the garage, spending an hour looking for the part that fell off the work bench and somehow ended up in a box of parts even though I saw it hit the floor. FSCKING thing.
  22. Well it turns out I've managed to accidentally buy yet another 3.89 MK IV diff that I thought was going to be a 3.63 1500 one. Anyone got a 3.63 for sale? Not too bothered about lash/condition, really I only need the case and the crown wheel and pinion for building an LSD.
  23. Got some decent quality manifold nuts from DMG and some decent heavy duty spring washers from a local supplier (Danlet/ https://www.bolts.co.uk/) and fitted the manifolds on the Spitfire. So much better than the scabby objects previously used. Also replaced the re-used nyloc on the track-rod-end with a new one when they arrived.
  24. Thanks Tim! Been running Freelander studs since 2013! (https://yorkshire-spitfire.blogspot.com/2013/05/and-some-fitting-osr-done.html) Yes, ARB will get refitted with new links of this type: Cheers, Sam
