  1. What's the current value? Is that a 3p bawbee or a 6p bawbee? 😉
  2. Discovered during re-assembly the sodding track rod end on the Spitfire has a metric thread with an odd pitch.... which explains why I can't get a UNF nyloc to fit. Re-used the old nyloc for now (when I finally found which one it was in the pile of old ones) but I've ordered replacements. M10x1.25 I think. (Hope!)
  3. I have a "sumpy" oil leak on the Spit 1500... I'm just hoping it's not something similar or the crank rear seal. 😞 I removed the sump straightened the flange fitted a new gasket and was careful torquing the bolts. Time will tell if I still need engine out to sort it.
  4. I can't say either way TBH, the bearings I bought are currently in a box with the parts of my spare gearbox ready for when I need them to either repair the current 'box or rebuild the spare.
  5. Last of the parts stripped off the spare Spitfire chassis - now to decide whether to have it shot blasted and see about getting it 100% OR assess whether it's a bit far gone for what I want. Repairs to the chassis on the Spitfire itself painted and now ready (finally!) to reassemble everything.
  6. I suspect this isn't a direct translation... even with my meagre understanding of the French language words like merde and foutu stand out as not quite matching the English given 😉
  7. Not a sodding thing. 😞 between health issues, illness, family and Christmas I haven't done anything in the garage in weeks.
  8. Propshaft bolts are about a pound each from places like Canleys/Paddocks (+vat + postage)
  9. Hi @DavidJWIDDOP, I'm just down on the North side of Halifax so not far away - just dealing with some health issues myself at the moment, but once I'm well I'll try and help.
  10. @Wendy Dawes I was going to go back and correct the typo... but it's too funny. Those 4 think they are the gods of the house! 🙂
  11. A very rare photo of all 4 of our rescue gods together (the fluffy Pom is old and grumpy and usually keeps to herself)
  12. Merry Christmas all! (Yeah, I know... a day late!)
  13. Ooooh no, that would never do! My wife can't stand him! ;-)
  14. They are probably still trying to find the OBDII/Canbus port so they can plug their diagnostics in.
  15. Looked him up on Facebook and dropped him a message as I'm just down the road in Halifax.
  16. I think @Clive did a comparison but I can't remember whether it was on here or on Sideways (or even somewhere else!) IIRC it was pretty much "you get what you pay for" and the heavy duty Freelander ones were the better bet. I'll have a search and see if I can find the details.
  17. Starting note.... Spitfire MK IV is a 1300, Spitfire 1500 is effectively the MK V (but that's just model pedantry, no really relevant) I came over from the land rover world about 10 years ago when I bought a Spitfire 1500 - my first classic car (land rovers aren't classic cars, they are just old/older land rovers 😉 ) my advice would depend on how handy with the spanners you are etc. Most mechanical stuff is DIY sortable, but I (personally) hate having to sort bodywork out, so I'd go to town with any you look at hunting for rust (usual places, chassis, wings etc.), spend the extra for one with overdrive if you plan on doing any long trips or higher speed roads/motorways. If you are going to thrash the car (driving up alpine passes for example) one with an oil cooler is a good plan if it's a 1500 (1300 not so bad) but these are relatively cheap to buy/fit - so not a massive deal. SEATS are expensive (relatively speaking) to re-trim and re-foam, so a car with decent seats fitted is a bonus. See if you can find an active local group for the club and go along and make new friends - you might find somebody with a Spitfire happy to help you look at possible purchases, or their cars might give you an idea of what to expect?
  18. ooohh no John, my pockets are nowhere near deep enough to be entering motorsport events. Due to time and finance constraints I'll be a spectator!
  19. That's pretty cool John, here's hoping that we get some good classic racing as a result.
  20. I probably have a couple of rear hubs out in the garage, but can't check right now as I'm on a different continent until Sunday.
