  1. Another method I've used is either a known good TR or a beam deflection type (less likely to go out of cal.) linked together with one held in the vice - pull and make sure you get the same readings / click matches the deflection reading.
  2. I changed the topic title, we were back at Filey Brigg again yesterday and spotted a superb looking white Dolomite. It seems to be the place to be in classic Triumphs.
  3. Free to anyone who collects from Halifax. Or postage at cost.
  4. I would highly recommend Falken Sincera SN832 Ecorun. I run 175/70 R13 on minilite style alloys on my Spitfire 1500 - great grip even in the wet and only £59 fitted and balanced last time I bought a pair.
  5. Stunning quality of work as ever @Beans!
  6. that sounds annoying @Dannyb Just took the Spitfire out for a run in the sunshine, top down and lovely countryside. 🙂
  7. Sticky inboard piston on the NSF brake caliper on the Spitfire, so removed the caliper, cleaned, repainted, rebuilt and refitted it, then bled the system off. Just need to get it back out on the road for a test now.
  8. What does the 1200 manifold look like? I have a pile of Herald bits somewhere that came with a 1300 engine, might be a manifold in amongst.
  9. @Rutty love the cable-tie idea! I'm nicking that one!
  10. as Tim says, important to get the fixings correct
  11. Saw a really nice looking 2 tone red/white Vitesse on Filey Brigg country park yesterday. Didn't get the reg as I was too busy trying to control the mental dogs. Anyone on here?
  12. Got the Spitfire out for a run in the sun on Sunday... the mis-fire I thought I'd previously cured was BACK! 😞 Felt totally deflated and a bit defeated. But I had a mess about in the engine bay and found #4 HT lead had an issue. The insulation boot at the plug end was too far down the HT lead... all the time it's fitted it's pushing the connector off the plug, so I guess with vibration, heat etc eventually the connector just pops off the plug. I slid the boot a bit further up the HT lead and re-connected and then did a 22 mile test run... no issues. Now I'm not counting chickens, because I thought I'd fixed this previously... but so far so good. Test run route: Home->Oxenhope->Hebden->Home
  13. Hi Peter, my Spitfire 1500 (1977 build) has the electric washer pump as standard. Switch for the pump is on the wiper stalk switch: (Push for wash) And I used a generic washer pump to replace my failed one a few years ago from eBay of this type: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283892034393 Can't help with the manual type I'm afraid.
  14. Cool pictures, thanks @Craig
  15. Have a great day tomorrow everyone, stay safe and go well!
  16. Great way forward with a project - get it running, on the road, enjoy driving it and the progressively improve it! Keep us updated and post lots of pictures!
  17. A rare photo of all 4 of ours together at the same time!
  18. Great to see another rescue dog getting a good home @richard w!
  19. A really nice write-up! (And a really nice car which I admire whenever we see you on events like the Border Raiders)
  20. I bought their 4:2:1 manifold for my Spitfire 1500. I think the most disappointing thing was the way they supplied standard exhaust clamps for the 2:1 Y branch joins, even though there's no way they can actually be looed around the pipes because of how close they are. It needs Mikalor style flat band clamps. I emailed them about the problem, but they never replied. Mine needed a bit of tweaking to get it fitted to the head without blowing, but nothing as extreme as @tom horse experienced.
  21. Dolomite, first time I've done anything with it since gearbox failure on last year's 10CR.
  22. Crawling around under the car last night the first signs that all is not well emerge - The rear gearbox mount looks like it's taken some hammer since I re-installed the engine and gearbox early last year. As I undid the exhaust bracket (UKC3409) the top corner of the bracket has broken off completely The underside of the box is covered in ATF even though I renewed the gaskets and seals before re-fitting the box.
  23. Lets face it... M1144>Standard Mintex>Generic Rimmers so it's likely to be an improvement whichever he's got!
  24. Been running Mintex 1144 since the 2015 10CR in the Spitfire - always been very very happy with the progressive bite and pedal feel.
