  1. Sam was all for using the Aylesbury A41 route which we've used before but I tried to be a smart arse and looked up the trafficengland.co.uk website on my phone which told me the M40 was OK. I won't believe that again! We ended up 28 mins late which was disappointing after being in the window for virtually all the controls. Keith

  3. To be fair I think the organisers need to speak to Land's End and find out what their problem was. We had to queue for about 30mins,  but by the time we were served at 8:30  they had three people serving and the food was coming out of kitchen as quickly as it was being dished out, so was it just a problem with timing? The breakfast was good enough when we got it. K
  4. Well I suppose someone's got to start it. Tim, Jason, Nigel, Dave, Andy, Malcolm - great organising team. All the marshals, absolutely first rate at all the stops - well done. The staff at the Seaview. Breakfast order taken as soon as we sat down, couldn't have been better. The staff at the Plough for putting up with us taking over their pub! CT Southern area - cakes! Macmillan - support and biscuits Vidahost, our website hosting co, a big thank you and plug for them for going beyond their service obligations to fix a problem while I was in the North of Scotland with no internet access. And finally all the entrants for camaraderie. Cheers, Keith 8)
  5. Facebook is nothing to do with us and only accessible to those with a Facebook account so I don't think there is any way of getting a feed of the content, so we want people to upload stuff here if possible. This is a CT event and not a Facebook one! Keith
  6. If you have any pics of the event that you'd like to share on the website we have a photo album here- http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/album/album.pl?album=rbrr/2014 Use your normal website login. Please don't post pic threads on the forum, the album keeps them together in a better format for the future. Cheers  8) K
  7. Hi Roger, It's something to do with the non-UK number, as far as I can see no non-UK texts have got as far as our provider. I can raise a support query with them, perhaps it is something they don't support but I can't find that in the T&Cs Can you confirm that you have definitely sent texts from your number recently? Cheers, Keith
  8. Thought I'd start a thread about interesting features to look out for along the route, not that we have a great deal of time to visit them! One that I've previously visited was the John Cobb memorial the banks of Loch Ness on the A82 just past Urquhart Castle, marking the spot where the great man died in 1952 trying to break the water speed record. Here are some pics taken on the '94 run (blimey that's 20 years ago!) Keith
  9. BTW, there's an undocumented feature that some might find useful if your device adds a signature to your message that you can't turn off. Just finish your your message with 'EOM' on a new line. The software will then ignore that and anything that follows. Keith
  10. Colin, Yes, it was a lot lower, what it really needs is to downsize on upload, so that you can upload whatever you want. That won't be until the next version though! K
  11. The limit was set to 500k, I've upped it to 1M, trouble is phone cameras can produce enormous files these days. Does that seem reasonable? K
  12. Now up and running for test purposes- http://club.triumph.org.uk/rbrnews For those familiar with it, it's all very much the same as last time. For newbies, it's a means of collating SMS messages and e-mails on the website during the event so that supporters can follow progress of the run online. Full details will be in the road book. (Please don't repeat them here to prevent spam) Keith
  13. Starting handle hole cover. It was an optional extra, I've got some somewhere but never fitted them. Keith
  14. That's a 3 synchro box, as in Heralds and early Spits. The number, FC, indicates that it starting life in a mk1 or 2 Spit ( or at least the casing did!) Standard Herald clutch, you'll need a Vitesse O/D speedo cable and angle drive as well as the mounting plate to bolt the overdrive to. K

Having read the registration agreement you will know that advertising on the forum isn't allowed, therefore you must be giving it away free. Whereabouts are you?  I may be able to collect. it. K
  16. Hi Doug, I've got a puller which you are welcome to borrow or bring your driveshaft  round and we'll attack it in my shed. K
  17. I've taken TR ones apart, are they the same? K

Thanks Pete, that's a useful chart. The engine back plate was replaced last time and still looks to be flat. K

But is it cause or effect? That was (I thought) a NOS Borg & Beck plate about 9000 miles ago. At least that's what I thought as it came out  of a Borg & Beck box. I've never seen one that bad before, the centre is noticeably loose and rattly. Looking back through my old bits pile I found a clutch cover that I'd removed previously with a crack in the pressure plate. So maybe I've just been unlucky with a succession of duff bits, or maybe there is a root cause. I dare say I'll find out when I've got it all back together. K

Right, I've been busy sorting out the gearbox, that's done now so back to the clutch. I think I may have found what was causing the problem!

That's what I thought Andy, it was NOS about 15,000 miles ago, and still looks new. There is a lot of oil around the inside of the bellhousing though. I'm now pinning my hopes on a new scroll gearbox oil seal that I've just ordered from Rimmers. The problem only occurs when it gets hot so it could be as simple as that. Keith

I think the parts book reference may refer to the whole lever assembly, rather than just the the alloy lever on it's own, which would have the different bearing carrier attached hence have a different part number. Does that seem reasonable? Started playing with dial gauges today to see if I can work out what's wrong as you suggest Pete. I thought I'd start by checking the flywheel runout. I wasn't getting any sensible readings so I thought I'd give it tug to check the end float. I got almost a complete revolution of the gauge. Argh, 100 thou, thrust washer dropped I thought! I'd dropped the sump before I realised that the gauge, which is not the one I normally use, is calibrated in 0.0001". Maybe I should take up a different hobby. :-/ K
  23. Can't remember if you need to remove the speedo drive but it should be easy enough to do, remove the bolt and it should then pull out. You may need to attach a speedo cable to it to give you something to lever against without damaging the thread. Probably best to try and tap the mainshaft through the tail bearing rather than tap the extension off the casing or you may just be pulling the rear bearing out of the main case which won't go very far until you've dropped the laygear out of mesh. May take a bit of persuading. Keith

According to the parts book the clutch lever changed as well with introduction on the diaphragm clutch. All the ones in my parts heap look the same, irrespective of what bearing and carrier is fitted. Anyone know what the difference is, and how to tell one from t'other? K

I've probably got most of the bits to do the swap kicking around. As far as I can tell it's flywheel, slave cylinder, bearing carrier and the clutch itself. Is there anything else? I just find it frustrating that I can't make the coil spring clutch work properly, I can't believe they were that bad when new, or were they? K
