  1. Graham, the object of the event is to drive to the controls, not send them letters. Keith
  2. I've usually found enough slack in the timetable for an hour or so kip in a layby on the leg down to Land's End and still ended up waiting in the queue for them to start breakfast!
  3. The only time I've ever drunk the horrible sickly stuff is when they were giving it away free at the start. Can't remember which year that was, they seem to have gone on to promote bigger things since then. I ended up throwing most of it away. I always followed Les Mills advice and took some glucose tablets to keep sugar levels up along with a flask of coffee to keep hydrated. There's only one cure for tiredness really, and that's sleep. Doesn't matter how long or short a stint you do, if you're tired, you change over, if you're both tired, you stop. Even 15-20 mins of proper sleep in a layby can make all the difference. Keith
  4. Sorry to hear that Chris, I hope the medics can fix it. Take care, Keith
  5. A lowering block will reduce camber making it more negative. if you've got too much neg camber the only cure is a stronger spring I'm afraid. K
  6. A reserve list could scupper my plan to leave it until July and get the record for the highest ever entry number, maybe I should just follow the hordes get one in the post. K
  7. No problem Jonny, it's good to know that younger people still want to do the event. To do it properly you would probably need a few more 'reporters', people aren't that keen on having microphones thrust at them when they've been driving all night (although Derek was as cool, calm and collected as ever at 4am in a damp Scottish petrol station), and I was finding it hard on my first RBRR which is why the whole thing petered out after John O'Groats. Still I'm glad I got the introduction from Alan, I doubt there are many other recordings of him. Keith
  8. I need to correct myself, after a bit of online browsing I reckon it would have been a 4000 Report Monitor by then, there doesn't seem to be a Uher saddo website yet but there are few on ebay, and quite cheap too  - hmmm.
  9. Quarter inch tape is a pretty good archival medium really, think how many digital formats have come and gone since that was recorded- PCM-F1 - DCC - DAT - minidisc. Digital is OK but have to keep on constantly renewing the media because you never know how long it will last! Seems like only yesterday when that was recorded, you're making me feel old now Jonny! Thinking about it probably was the IC version by then, I don't think the L would cope with the higher coercivity tape that we were using. Still the same weight to lug about though! It would be good to try and do it properly and cover the run in audio, we tend to get saturated by visual media these days but as anyone who works in the medium will tell you - 'the pictures are always better on radio!' a challenge for someone perhaps. Keith
  10. Yes, a bit late to give him a 'slap on the wrist' for that now! Recording was done on standard reporters kit, a Uher 4000L (or possibly a 4000IC) at 7.5ips half track with a Beyer omni mic.Quality wise you couldn't do much better these days really. Keith
  11. OK, here's a link to the whole thing- [Sorry, link no longer available] You will hear- Alan Renew (CTNL Chairman) at Broadfields Garage Derek Pollock (then CTNL Secretary) at Fair City Services Perth Unknown Acclaim driver at the Seaview (surprised no-one guessed that location) Trevor Pepper (Herald 1200 owner) outside the Seaview. Interspersed with a couple of idiots and a terrible interviewer that I can only apologise for. Keith
  12. Spot on with the person Derek, it was Alan Renew speaking as Club Chairman although the year was 1986. That year as well doing my first RBRR I was working in Local Radio and took a portable tape recorder to try and record some interviews and actuality. None of it has been heard before but I'll try and get the whole thing edited and online should anyone be interested. Here's another excerpt - [Sorry, link no longer available] Who can tell me - 1. The person? 2. The location? The latter is easy but I don't actually know the answer to the identity, maybe Derek can work it out from the entry lists. Keith
  13. Your starter for 10 - Who can tell me- 1. the person 2. the year [Sorry, link no longer available]

    Under bonnet smoke

High resistance connection, I'd start with where the heat was being generated. It doesn't take much resistance when you are pulling 100s of Amps! (I2R) K
  15. Well according to the official CT RBRR pages I'm still in at no 6, which is odd as I haven't even sent a form off yet, and might not bother if the information management is going to be this bad! K
  16. I'm definitely thinking that I may possibly put an entry in at some time in the future. I need to speak to my co-driver first though, I wouldn't want to waste Jason's time by entering details that are only going to change later. K
  17. Thanks for a very well organised event Mike and marshals, we enjoyed the day. Chas has got all the clues and information to work through and I'm sure we'll be back in the future. We'll carry our wooden spoon with pride until then! Keith
  18. Well done Tim! A good bit of negotiation there. Also means I don't have to fork out for a new polo shirt, jacket, windscreen sticker, mug etc! Keith
  19. Sorry for the slight rant, I didn't mean to have a go at Andy personally. I know the current album is probably a bit irrelevant but if the data isn't there then it can never get migrated to the new one. The development site is running but not publicly available, hence the request for anyone interested in testing by uploading directly. Keith PS I like the random pics too!
  20. Shame that you think supporting the Club's website is too much of a faff Andy. Maybe I'm now finding it all a bit of a faff and might not bother after the next AGM and leave the Club to run it via whatever crappy commercial 'social networking' bollocks that you want to use. Keith
  21. Hang on a minute Mike, Tony's axle failure was after the finish so can't be called a failure. K
  22. Photo album up and running here- [Sorry, link no longer available] I know the software is a bit cr*p but if anyone wants to have a go at uploading into the new website to help develop it let me know by pm. Cheers, K
