Thanks for your reply I had taken in all your comments I have rebuilt a few engines I am not new to using a drill and taps and dyes having in the dim and distant past had a five year apprenticeship in precision engineering . I was hoping to hear from someone who had actually carried out this procedure. Again thanks for your helpful comments

The no3 cylinder plug hole in my standard tr7 head is vv worn infact the first few threads are non existent has anyone any experience of using time sort inserts . I am thinking of using them with the head in situ . If anyone has used a different method or make I would like to hear your comments . Thanks

Took my tr7 out for a run on Saturday on Sunday it was my morris minors turn need a longer weekend when my mini is on the road

Just read your restoration post on the stag what a brave skilled man you are I have done a few restorations as a hobby on smaller cars than yours but not quite as delapidated as yours . How are you with it at present

I asked a friend of mine to bring me a set of snap on ratchet spanner’s back when he was next on a trip to the USA I finished up with a cheap Walmart set he said the others were rather expensive . That aside they are useful when you have the room to use them

I was there about 20 years ago in my 4a along with other triumphs from the South Downs group (tr register) even then the tiled floor of I think either shell or esso emblem had been taken up ie stolen what a shame

Yes I have used a surface grinder to reduce the shims to the required size thought such a small shim even only case hardened would be hardened to quite a depth on a small shim .

I have a 82 standard tr7 I am constantly resetting the valve clearances at about 2500 mile intervals could it be due to wear in the cam followers I have never looked at these just reground and refitted the shims

Who do I submit a written piece to for getting it in the magazine name and email would be good

As I stated earlier I have constructed my very robust bench and fitted wheels to each leg ( I am a retired joiner) I have been using it for the last 5 years it has presently got a fully fitted out 1300 cc a series engine sat on it ready for fitting into my mini no problems what so ever in carrying this weight I also stand on it to get to the high reach shelves my lathe is free standing my linisher bench drill and grinder sit on there own bench . Wheels mean you can move it we’re ever you want and I can assure you if manufactured using the correct materials and procedures is stable

When I made mine I fitted lockable wheels on the bottom and glad I did it’s really stable when locked and handy when you want to move it around sorry I am late in posting on this topic

If you went what did you think of this years NEC car show , my opinion for what it’s worth Too much bull and shine not enough real lived in cars that are used , not enough parts suppliers there and not enough auto jumble thirdly when will they do something about the car parking prices other that I enjoyed it
