MSter
Today i have finally removed the rear tub from my herald something i should have done from the beginning the good news is the chassis is sound albeit needing a rub down and paint but its solid thats the main thing. Anyway how can i check the rear leaf spring is mot passable?? what can i check or do?? Also i would like to give it a nice lick of paint after a rub down is this ok or is it best to clean up and leave alone??have attached a few pics of my days work
Clive
If you want it pretty, then take it apart, wire brush up and paint. I wouldn't put anything thick on there though. When you reassemble, a good coat of grease between the leaves will help it move freely. As to MoT-able, it should be fine unless a leaf is cracked.BTW I wind the wire brushes for angle grinders very good for derusting. BUT a full face visor is a must, and thick clothing. The bits of wire fly off and impale you....
Paudman
Split the leaves, clean up and grease before reassembly. then wind in grease-impregnated plumbers tape and secure the loose ends with plastic ties. Keeps all the crud off and if wound tightly can help stiffen a sagging spring.
