oil level

hi all .does anyone know how much oil to put in my 1.3toledo engine in my herald.oil is blowing out of dipstick hole .someone has put in a chrome dipstick so i am hopin its the wrong lenth and its over filled. so if someone can tell me the right amount of oil to start with i can remark dipstick thanks :)

double check it has the felt seal on the dipstick, up at the "washer" that stops it gong too far. If not, make something, I have used several wraps of string as an emergency alternative, tied well so no chance of falling into the engine.
Well worth trying the car with the ouil filler cap off too, feel if there is a lot of pressure in here. If so, it way be a worn engine (exactly what I had in my toledo, it threw oil out the dipstick and burnt a LOT. Reduced consumption by half with a seal on the dipstick)

From the Toledo hand book:-

Engine sump and filter.....   4.2 Litres

Engine sump, drain/refill...  3.7 Litres

But that of course only applies if you're using a Toledo sump.
