jonnyk5614
The penrite website reacons that HPR 15 is suitable for my stag.It is a 15w60 fully synthetic oils "designed for older engines".http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=1&id_brand=1&id_products=3I thought one should steal well clear of synthetics? Richard B
I've been using Valvoline VR1 20/50Euro Parts quite often discount it to around £25 inc free p&p.Synthetic should be good, the oil is less likely to breakdown.
Clive
That penrite sounds rather good. Nothing wrong with synthetics at all. Only downside is if the sump is sludged up a decent modern oil may get the cud moving. Saying that, a decent dino oil would do the same.(Mr B, think postage would be expensive to NZ!) thescrapman
JonnyIf the price is good, then it sounds like a good oill for the Stag.I use VR1 and Miller Classic Sport 20/50. I think the Millers has now become a 20/60 (and gone up in price :-( )CheersColin
jonnyk5614
Cheers Engine wasn't rebuilt too long ago (but not by me so I can only rely on expensive receipts). When I bought the car, it had 10w40 in it but went through a lot of oil! 20w50 is all good... CharliesStag
Another user of VR1 20W50. It certainly seems to stay good.Synthetics are not a bad thing, but thy must be of the correct grade.
ROG
I use the Penrite 20/60 ("Extra 10") mineral oil. Excellent quality. Not particularly expensive. High zinc/phosphor additive content, which is good.Synth is, without doubt, better oil that has improved cooling, anti-sludge and dirt-suspension properties. It doesn't break down gradually, as dino oil does. But it is also more slippery and will leak out of your old-fashioned gaskets much more easily.
