npanne
How freely should a new water pump turn?I've just bought a replacement one, but it feels to my mind that there is too much resistance - it doesn't "spin" if turned by hand, for example, the friction stops it as soon as I let go - is this normal? junkuser
The drag you are feeling is due to the seal which is basically two flat surfaces forced together by a spring. There is some lubrication during use from the water. The original pumps had a carbon ring running on the cast iron of the pump body but "modern" ones use a ceramic ring.
