CRAJ Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I have a noisy alternator, it first made itself heard on the way back from a successful MOT on Tuesday. I have traced it to the pulley which seems to have separated in to 2 halves. I charges fine still and the belt isn't slipping, but I don't know what to do with it. I have tried tightening the nut on the shaft but it wont move.It makes a tinkling noise and sounds annoying rather than anything else. Has anyone had this before, and how did they cure it, and if it's incurable where is the best place to source a new one? Cheers Colin.
Richard B Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 The fan blades is a different part to the pulley. You might have to take the nut and pulley off to see whats wrong. Quite a simple assembly.ps there is a woodruff key on the shaft to locate these to items.
CRAJ Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 The fan blade is still solid to the shaft, its just the pulley which has split into two halves where the belt runs making the effective width of the pulley about 1/8th inch bigger.Colin.
CRAJ Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 It's almost as if the pulley is two pressed halves that are then spot welded together.Colin
