Triumph Herald 13/60 Dashboard fitting???

Whilst the dashboard is out and I'm prepping the area around the windscreeen for paint, can anyone identify what this body section does? and what the hole might be for in the centre?

I havent found a diagram anywhere to identify this.

Apologies for poor photo (bad lighting) but red pointer shows the "bit" I'm referring to.

My workshop manual calls it a 'demistifier support bracket' but it doesnt seem to do much...

Ha ha ha...yes especially as there are 2 demisters and only one bracket😁
