Ignition Module Query

I was looking at my GT6 engine bay this morning and found this electronic module wired to the coil.   See pic's below.  There's no wire from the bottom terminal to anywhere but this could have come off during it's 4 years out of use.  The distributor is on points so that seems to rule out electronic ignition.  Any ideas what this module is and what it's for?    

Sorry about the quality but the only camera I had to hand was my phone and the light was terrible.

I think that was your resistor for a 6V coil.

I have seen that type previously.

I agree - ballast resistor.
