123Ignition Distributor - Timing Recommendations?

Anthony

Recommended Posts

I've recently purchased a 123ignition distributor for my GT6.

I have the Tune+ item, which offers customisable timing.

My 2.6 engine is very far from standard, and has yet to be run.

How would I go about deciding what timing I should use as a baseline for my engine before I take it to the rolling-road to be set-up optimally?

Thanks.

Start off with the book timings, then adjust until best idle

The std timing curve for a GT6 should will be safe. You may need a little more advance at low revs. Maybe 12-14 degrees, I have found that, even with a std cam. But keep the max mechanical advance to total 32 degrees. And I wouldn't worry too much about vac advance if running the car up to a tuner, if he worth his salt he will set that up to give max torque under light load once he has done the usual WOT stuff.

Is that still a good starting point for a high compression engine with a race cam?

Just want to make sure I don't do anything that's going to cause any damage.

What cam are you using Anthony? I have a 300 cam in my car and the book settings were fine to get it started.

I'm guessing you're using either a PH3, or a TH7-6 cam?

My cam has a little more duration than they have, but not too much more.

No, I have Tony Lindsey-Dean's R3 cam, I did have the PH3 fitted previously, I'd say they are comparable.
