spitfire 1500 overdrive on 1300 engine

Hi,

i am fitting a single rail 1500 overdrive to an early mk4 1300 spitfire, however the clutch that was fitted was the 10 spline friction plate, and i need to fit the 20 spline clutch to match the overdrive box.

Do i need to change the flywheel to match the clutch, or can i use the 20 spline friction plate in the 10 spline pressure plate?

opinions and pearls of wisdom welcome....

Hi Carl,

You have choices.  You can either use the clutch plate from a latish 1300 Toledo of Dolomite which should have the correct combination of fine spline and diameter or fit the 1500 flywheel and clutch.  The former is likely to be the cheaper and easier option.  Usually you can get away with just changing the friction plate but a complete clutch kit is not that much.

You'll need the 1500 OD propshaft as well - but I guess you already know that......
