shadowbane
74 MkivHaving replaced the clutch (clutch plate, housing and release bearing) due to a strange grinding noise when changing gear...i now find that the clutch wont engage at all....even 1cm press on the pedal causes a grinding noise (obviously hard to explain in text)So as far as i am aware i have put the plate in the correct way and the rest back together correctly (could be wrong here but 90% right) I have to think of other things.....could the noise be made by a faulty slave cylinder? although drained maybe it's not operating fully and pushing the clutch at all?any thoughts would be appreciated.Rich

Allerno
ahh good stuff. I'm terrified of doing my clutch/gearbox/etc. I have it all out at the moment and I'm just in the process of cleaning the gearbox and the master and slave cylinders, and waiting for my clutch kit to be delivered on Monday. Copious amounts of photos have been taken to ensure that I don't put things back in the wrong way or even forget something!

Steve Cureton
Not sure about a Spitty but on the Herald I use a piece of wood about 10mm thick by about 150mm long to sit across the top of the chassis and under the tail end of the gearbox to help take the strain but also this is about the right height to align the gearbox shaft to the clutch.
