Brian 93957
Hi anyone ever changed the solenoid on a laycock A type o/drive Is it just a bolt on quick chage job or is it more involved? mines playing up and sticks (tapping it helps but a bit inconvenient!!? wiring is ok and oil is topped up so solenoid must be on its last legs? was working fine until a few days ago but had been a bit slow to engage sometimes
Tim Bancroft
Habe you checked the inhibitor switch- also clean out the filter within the o'd unit.
Brian 93957
yeah have checked the switch when the solenoid stops working the relay can still be heard and there is power up to the solenoid so im pretty sure this is the problem
Philip Blank
my understanding is that while the A type isn't as easy as the J when it comes to refurb'ing the unit itself, the solenoid comes out easily enough to service. i know this because i recently had mine serviced when the car was in having something else done to it. i know they pulled it out and i don't think it was much drama. hope this helps. Greeks
I don't know what access is like for an A-type, but I believe it's easier to get to than the D-Type solenoid ... in which case it shouldn't be too tricky - just a few screws to get the plate off and then easy removal. There's not much you can do other than hook it up to power and test it, though. They're not cheap to replace at full cost (as much as £70).
