We have never come close to removing it even when landing after getting a bit of air under the tyres. Sounds good as well.. :-) Cheers Colin Thanks, that's about what I have to go on the car, I say "about" because it's not quite complete having had a chunk cut off it at some point. The silencer's OK though. I just need a new link pipe I think. I haven't done any more than pull the stickers off the car since the run, must wash and polish sometime soon.

  3. Could it be this arrival at John o'Groats? Naaa, I think the best moment of all was the trip out of Sugar Loaf - we had a crappy trip down into Wales, the car wouldn't behave at anything under 3000 revs and wouldn't tick over at anything less that 2000! However the twisty roads demanded full use of the rev range although the fog and dark demanded caution. Nigel was knackered, I was knackered, the car was crap and we were almost out of ideas. Yet from this low point we somehow managed to pull a little belter. We changed the plugs (it was not tthe plugs but we were desperate) and spent an hour tuning and fiddling with linkages to get the engine running better - as we left it was clear that the gods were smiling on us again and so, as a tribute to those gods, I thrashed the doors of the TR and drove it hard - that was a great feeling and just goes to show, never surrender, never give up and always balance your butterflies.
  4. Theo - they were looking for general pictures of the start. As it's the Enfield paper and it's a local interest story I think it's safe to say that anything showing the Plough and the cars at the start or finish would be good. If you have any with the CT banner, the Plough and some cars then that would be great. Deadline is 4pm tmorro so the sooner they get some the better really :-) Thanks
  5. AlanChatterton wrote: ooooooo yes please....... perhaps that will show the doubters. No love at all.......... yes it got round with no issues, but that's not the point. Would rather have had a repeat of 2012 with a major failure at every stop than the reliable boringness surrounded by a sea of RATTLING plastic! Where there's an Acclaim, there's shame!
  6. The TR6 exhaust is an interesting design, no matter how much you clatter it, it can't fall off as it goes through the chassis and I know, we tried! Of course the issue now is that the exhaust is covered in a fine spray of oil, as is everything under the car! That means you can push the parts of the exhaust together and clamp them but they are so well lubricated that they will eventually part company at the earliest opportunity! That means every time you pass over a speed bump, road bump or discarded fag packet!! So, to answer the question, yes it's still on and mostly functions but it is the first thing I am going to get replaced.
  7. I guessed as much, trouble is didn't take a camera and the charging arrangements for my phone proved inadequate, that is they didn't work! So I had no means to take any  ;)
  8. Just had a call from the press in Enfield, they are putting together a story for the paper and need photos, trouble is they need them for 4pm tomorrow. So can you send any start or finish photos to Hermione Wright at hwright@london.newquest.co.uk before 4pm tomorrow please. Can I also encourage you to upload photos to the RBRR album online here http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/album/album.pl Thanks

  10. Colin!!! I was getting away with it and now you've gone and told the truth, it's a slippery slope! I think Lambrini in the cooling system would be an excellent flushing agent, a little in the washer bottle could be beneficial in the winter and I think it could get the residual stickiness off your paintwork after removing the stickers but for God's sake don't drink it!!

  12. Don't forget poor Chris has to travel the length of the country to get to the start. It's a shame he won't make it but that does give him the opportunity to get it finished right and not regret any hasty decisions. As for Dave, his best decisions are made in haste, or with a pint in his hand  :)
  13. Has anyone found an app that works on a blackberry and will ping the location to a blogger account? I was thinking that progress could be viewed online or maybe even on a map, by anyone interested.
  14. mikew wrote:I might have an issue with the estate. The front diff is leaking oil (quite a lot) when hot from the  drive shaft flanges. It doesn't happen when you potter round town, but only after or during a good motorway run. Either the oil seals are u/s or the diff breather is blocked and its pressurising, or both!. I cannot risk leaving it like that for the RBRR with the speeds and distances involved, the cost of a new front diff it it runs dry will be huge, The diff is going to have to come out, which is a major operation, front suspension, cross member steering rack and drive shaft hubs off. Watch this space, but if I cannot fix it I cannot do the run. Good luck mate, you've come so far you really deserve to complete the run, I shall pray to the gods of EP90 for you (that reminds me, must top up my gearbox!) OR, a total bodge but how about connecting up a pipe to allow remote filling? 5 litre can gaffer taped in the engine bay dripping oil into the diff as go? I'll get my coat...

  16. Thanks John, the control is at the Whithouse Services on the A30 and is formally open from 05.07 to 06.07
  17. I think there are two aspects of it for me, one positive and one sort of negative I want to see the dirty and campaign hardened cars at the finish with speed lines, road dirt and torn stickers looking well thrashed in with bleary eyed drivers talking bollocks and war stories. I don't want to see any dead cars, or hear of any stupidity on the road, or have any moaning about trivia - like spelling mistakes in the road book or a bad sausage at Lands End or excessive speed bumps in Didcot etc. All that is apart from the fact that I want to get round myself with my car and crew in one piece - if I achieve that it'll probably be more miles done in 48 hours than in the last 20 years for the old girl.

  19. Sean, we've got the right email address for you and I've responded to your direct email and PM today - check your spam filter as often when an email is sent to multiple addresses the mail server things it's spam and doesn't deliver it direct to your inbox - Sky is especially good at this as are a lot of "work" email servers.
  20. He'll be there, he's even got a Virgin Giving page up FFS, it's looking like a serious effort :-)
  21. To be fair not everyone reads the forum or wants to be part of a wider spares list as it can feel a little onerous - if someone calls you up and gives you a hard time because you're carrying the part they need and you won't turn back without putting yourself out... Also, plenty of crews buddy up together and organise themselves so don't want to get involved in a wider organisations. Of course there's plenty who are lethargic or indifferent about a spares list
  22. Regarding "missing" emails - each entry form should have had an email address on it from the main entrant, some had co-driver's email addresses but most didn't, we only really want one email address per crew, you're supposed to talk to each other :-) A few entrants have said they didn't get the email but when I investigated they were actually co-drivers. I can add in extra emails no problem but people do have to tell me what they are.
