  1. Thanks everybody. Gone with FloydP's recommendation and ordered the YBX3078 from Tanya Batteries. Put a similar battery in the Mazda a few weeks ago from the same supplier, so hopefully no problems. Only difference with my Spitfire is that it has a clamp on the positive side a screw down type fitting on the negative. Whoever rebuilt the car must have used whatever they had lying around I suppose. Thanks again guys. Jim.
  2. Can anyone give me the proper specs for a replacement battery? Been on umpteen sites where the amperes are 32, 44 and even higher and all say something different. Some even say the battery won't fit when others say it will. I've measured the old battery (which has no markings on it) and most will fit which makes me doubtful about the information provided on the sites. Old battery is goosed and needs replacement to get out and about again. Thanks. Jim.
  3. 1st of August today. Where will you be in two months time? Me? Having lunch in Stevenage before heading for Knebworth for the start of the 2021 Round Britain Reliability Run. See you all there. By the way, better get your engine back in the car sometime soon.
  4. Yup. Can't wait to be sitting on the start line. Jim.
  5. 18:00 hours. Gates to Knebworth open either at 14:00 or 14:30 for cars to sign on. Jim.
  6. That's me filling up the green GT6 with the guy who rebuilt the car before Graham Reeks bought it in the yellow tabard. Was really tired and out of it at that time and can't even remember the chap's name. But thanks for building a cracking car. It got us round the route twice.
  7. How did it go Chris? Saw on the Met Office forecast that there was to be fog/mist on the North Yorkshire Moors and in the Pennines too. Jim.
  8. I know it's off route but there is a 24 hour Shell petrol station at the north end of Kirkby Stephen on the A685. Going off route from Barnard Castle and picking it up again at Muker via Kirkby Stephen may reduce the fuel worries somewhat. Jim.
  9. That crossword is not made by Dale Barker by any chance? The Guardian? He's spreading his wings a bit. Jim.
  10. Not yet. Doesn't really get dark up here till about midnight, even then there's still a bit of light in the sky. Beam cut off looked good against the garage door though. With luck, I won't have put them in upside down. Jim.
  11. Tim, you know I only have eyes for you. LOL. Jim.
  12. Finally got round to fitting the LEDs this afternoon. Have a look at the difference between a H4 halogen and the LED headlights. Used these ones after reading the comments on here. https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collections/12-volt-collection/products/latest-led-headlights-h4-philips-z-es-hi-lo-beam-conversion-9-32v Jim. video-1624820673.mp4
  13. Google Maps is the initial port of call. After that, type in the location of the petrol station and "opening hours" into Google. Check out several of the sites to find a consensus of the opening hours. Particularly because of Covid, many sites have the wrong information, so never rely on only one site to give you the information you require. I learnt, to my cost, that you have to do this on the 2008 RBRR when I had planned to fill up at a supposed 24 hour petrol station, according to Google, on the A68 at Earlston in the Scottish Borders only to find it in darkness and then a fraught and frugal 34 mile drive to the Shell garage at the Dreghorn Link on the Edinburgh city by-pass. If you're still in doubt, phone the garage and ask - done that too. Better to be safe than stranded. Jim.
  14. Just checked elsewhere and the Texaco garage in Alston is NOT open 24 hours. It's hours of opening are 6:00 to 22:00. Jim.
  15. I'd check that the petrol station is still open 24 hours beforehand. The reviews say that it stopped pay at pump in January 2021 and the Spar shop associated with the petrol station closes at 22:00. Nothing else for miles if you're running low. Don't always trust what Google says - they sometimes don't update their information, or the proprietors don't. Jim.
  16. There is a Tesco 24 hour petrol station on the A69, half a mile west of Junction 43 of the M6 at Carlisle that would save a few pennies rather than the inflated prices at the halfway halt motorway services at Southwaite which is only a few miles down the road. I was considering it for refuelling on our southbound journey on the RBRR. Jim.
  17. There is an Asda petrol station on the A1150 in Darlington, which will still be open, in the first half of the route before you leave civilisation and a Shell 24 hour petrol station on the A168 between Ripon and Thirsk on the way to Helmsley, which, as I don't have a copy of the route shouldn't be far off, after you return to civilisation in the second half. There is also a 24 hour BP petrol staion in Hexham for the first half, which is a bit off route but about the only fuel available in the area if you require it. Jim.
  18. Danny, Another thing, you should still be able to see your video on your own channel. One of mine was blocked a few months back but I can still view it on my own channel. Download a free programme to download it onto your laptop. I currently use Mediahuman - had it for ages but don't remember if I had to pay for it. Works a treat. Jim.
  19. Danny, Contact YouTube and tell them that it's playing in the background. It's called "fair use" and your video should not have been blocked. They do listen and respond and even unblock videos. Check out the "fair use" videos on YouTube. Jim.
  20. Usually I try to find something a bit middle of the road but also a track that's stood the test of time. I tend to stick to the 80's where there is a ton of decent songs that people are somewhat familiar with. Trawling through YouTube can produce some gems that suit your video. But the song must be at the right tempo for the on screen action or the speed of moving from one scene to the next. Editing your video to coincide with changing volume of the song or chord changes makes the final product more enjoyable to watch. It's further complicated if your video is longer than the track you're using. Fading from one track to another is okay if both tracks use the same beats to the bar but a silent pause may be necessary if the second track is faster, for example if the second half of the video is building up the tension. It's all trial and error to see what works best. Worst part is when you're finished and upload it and YouTube block it for copyright. Been there, done that. Making a test video using the track you want to use and uploading it seems to be the only way nowadays to check. Even worse is when your video has been on YouTube for a year and then suddenly removed for copyright infringement that didn't exist when you uploaded it. Had that too. So frustrating. Jim.
  21. Tim, If you're editing the video and moving from one scene to another, the sound changes abruptly. Doesn't help the viewer enjoy the video with a quiet section suddenly blasting out high volume as the scene changes. Not everyone can sit through 10 minutes of exhaust noise. After a few minutes, most folk would move on to another video and all your hard work in producing the video is wasted. A bit of familiar music, especially if it's appropriate to the video can enhance the quality and keep people viewing it to the end. Jim.
  22. Tim, Be careful flashing your lights in remote country settings. You may attract the kind of attention you don't want. Jim.
  23. I was looking at those ones too. Just concerned about them overheating in the bowls behind the headlight unit. How big a hole to allow sufficient cooling? Don't want them failing in the dark of Wales on the RBRR. Jim.
  24. I was considering LED lights to replace my halogens in the Spitfire. However, can someone answer this, do I need to cut the cowling at the back of the headlight to allow cooling? And do they require a relay fitted as my lights only go through the switch? Jim.
