  1. So I have had a Triumpetune rear antiroll bar in my garage for years and I often wonder if it would work on a Rotflexed 1500 Spitfire with a 2.5 lump. Currently it has a Canleys classice Cv conversion with the orignal thick 1500 front antiroll bar. It all seems to work ok although apparently I should have the thinner front antiroll bar? I've looked at the possibility of mounting the rear antiroll bar round the wrong way i.e. facing forwards. It looks like it would fit mounted on the chassis and connected to the lowere wishbones via droplinks. It would even clear the exhaust system. Can anyone tell me if they think this is a bad idea before I progress it further? Or has anyone doen this before? Martin

    ally sump

Interesting I've been looking too! Reasons why extra capacity(?) it looks baffled, better cooling and it looks good. It does list it as a fit for GT6 so it would be interesting to see if it fits a 2.5 engined sump too. Who is going to be brave and try one first? Martin
  3. So I don't know what the original GT6 has but I have a Spitfire with Rotoflex and my pipe runs in Copper/nickel pipe and goes under the bracket. If you leave it where it is it will catch on the driveshaft espacially when the wheels are on the ground. Hope this helps Martin
  4. Gents I have a bit oif a cheat that I use. If you temporary fit 4 x long Herald Studs on the diff with the plate have the spring loose, then put one of the spring bolts in on one end of the spring and  then try and find a mate and between the two of you but the second bolt in. It won't be easy but with two of you and the spring not being under tension and very slack you should be able to get  the second bolt in. Once you have this start winding down the spring in the middle to creat tension. Once it is down a fair way remove two diagonal studs and replace with the proper shorter GT6 studs, take the tension up on these, then replace the other two and tension down all four studs onto the diff. It takes a while but it is the best way I have found of doing it. Hope this is clear if not let me know. I've never got on with spring lifing tools Martin Hayward Heath
  5. I've gone for an electric pump too. I found that a mechanical pump wasn't pumping enough under max power/acceleration on a 2.5. I think the challenge may be get a decent repro mechanical pump? Martin
  6. Andy perhap you ought to consider coming over to HS6 carbs then you won't have alll these issues? 8) Martin
  7. One thing I found was that the standard mechanical pump would not pump enought fuel on a 2,5litre in my Spitfire. It used to misfire at about 95-100mph. Now it has an electric pump it will go up to 110mph plus and is only limited by the corners on the circuit ;) Martin
  8. One thing that has been missed out that doesn't cost much is the driver!  Its one of the ways to loose weight with out spend money on bits! On a serious note this is an excellent thread and realy usefull. I'll have to fine somewhere to get my car weighed to see what it works out at. I wonder what is the minimum weight you can get a roadlegal Spitfire and GT6 down to? Martin

I still don't think you can beat s 2.5 straight six. Don't forget it isn't just BHP but Torque too. I took my Delorean owning neigbour out this afternoon in the Spitfire and he now wants one!  Not bad a? Martin
  10. So that is interesting. I have Avo's on the back of my Spitfire with Cv's and I have the extension brackets. So do people thin I don't need the shockabsober brackets and I can now go back to the original chassis mounts? Is there any advantage of having the shockabsortber working more in a more vertical motion rather than tipped over on the original brackets? If there is no difference I can remove the brackets and save weight? Martin
  11. Realy useful and interestign post I have a 2.5 rotolex/Cv 1500 spitfire so it all usefull stuff. Martin
  12. Guys I've done a search on MX 5 seat but I can't find any threads. I've gone and brough some mk2 MX 5 seats. I've measured then up against the existing 1500 seats and the width of the back is narrow on the MX 5 seats the depth of the base is 8inches compared with 7,5 with a very saggey 1500. The only down side is that the seat squab is wider. So before I fit them are there any tips from people who have fitted them? Thanks in advance Martin
  13. Nick that looks like an excellent idea. Can you give us an idea of the thickness of the plate? Looks about 4-5 mm at the moment . Martin
  14. These Stromberg things sound to too complicated to me I'll stick with my HS6's they don't seem to go wrong ;) Martin
  15. Gents thanks for you input it has confirmed that I need to look elsewhere. Thanks Martin
  16. I'm struggling to up load photo's as they are too large a file. Any advise on how to do this? Thanks Chris for organising this it is apprecated Martin (Oily) Marrison
  17. I have Capri ventilated disks with space standard callipers But I am reluctant to pay out expensive callipers!   I think they may be overkill but they will reduce the unsprung weight? Martin
  18. Car washed and checked out today. Thermals all ready to go tomorrow with an early start. See you all tomorrow Martin Marrison Haywards Heath (Yellow Spitfire)
  19. I've notice on EBAY that MGF have some nice looking Alloy 4 pot brake callipers. Does anyone know if they are the same bolt pattern to either Spitfire or GT6 callipers? I assume someone has looked into them as an option to upgrade the brakes? Martin
  20. Chris Thanks for this. Sorry I forgot it was Goodwood organising it rather than your good self. Look forward to it and praying for no rain and not too cold.... Martin
  21. I would agree with Nick the oil pressure is about right. Just make sure you stick with a good 20/50 oil and a good non-return oil filter. With regular oil changes it will last for ages. Martin
  22. Chris that is good news that it is on. Are you going to email out details as per last time or do we just turn up at Goodwood on Monday? I see it is a 8.00 am start for people that haven't booked. What time is it for those that have?  I think we have to pray for no rain and ideally not too cold.  Looking forward to it and thanks Chris for organising it! Martin
  23. Gents Thanks for the responses just to confirm it is a 1500 that has been converted to  Rotoflex and then converted to CV's last winter. Clive has seen my saggy rear end in action earlier this year. My concern is going to Le Mans next year I want to take the Spitfire and I know that as I approach my 50th year I will need some creature comforts so the car will be loaded to the gunnels. I am thinking about taking the Diff out this winter so it will be an ideal time to do something to the rear spring. One thing I did notice that the Spring is quiet arched and is a bit of a bugger to put in. Its easier with the CV's but it not what I would call a flat profile. I assumed that a MK2 GT6 would be heavier than a Spitfire 1500 with a 2.5 in it so in my view this should be stronger. Thanks for all the input so far. Perhaps one day a may have a "pert" rear end! ;) Martin
  24. Nick Thanks for this all the inner bushes are all new and free so its not this. I think it is the spring as with no weight in it has no negative camber but with two people and luggage it has excessive negative camber apparently.
  25. I have a 1500 Spitfire that I have converted the rear end to Rotoflex and subsequently CV's. I used a new spring from Canleys and I thought a GT6 Mk2 spring would be ideal. It now appears that my "rear end is sagging" Is there a recommended GT6 replacement that will not sag or do I need to find an decent original?  To be fair the Canleys rear spring has been on for 10 year but I would guess at only 20,000 miles max. Martin
