  1. I have now got 15 inch 195/60 tyres on the Stag with slightly lowered springs. I have the front tyres set to 26 and the rears to 28PSI. Does this sound about right? Martin
  2. I have a funny feeling my 198 Spitfire 1500 had a brake master like that from original I changed it out in 1984 as it leaked brake fluid down the sill. I had brought the car from a Leyland garage at 3 years old with a warrantee and the garage refused to payout for the replacement brake master as I had not had it serviced with them! I don't think they would get away with that today. Martin
  3. I have only had my car just a year and I have never seen any Alloy Cam covers for the Triumph V8. Do I assume as there is a limited number of engines it was never worth producing one? Or does someone know otherwise? Martin
  4. I've got Canley CV on my 2.5 Spitfire and it is very good. One side effect is it makes diff  changed very easy. Undo the diff flanges and slide then out if the way. The suspension is not under the Rotoflex rubber suspension tension and I am sure it is a smoother drive too. Martin
  5. Laurence So just so I understand you correctly if this was going into a 2000/2500 or Stag you wouldn't need to cut off the clutch support and thus could use a standard clutch rather than a concentric clutch?  I wonder if the LT 77 would be able to cope with a Triumph V8 power? Interesting work thanks Martin
  6. I would agree with Clive, I would put that money towards a CV conversion and do it once. If you have Rotoflex's you know you are going to have to change them at a max of 20 to 25 K even for good ones. I assume that £245 is for a pair? Martin
  7. Just seen a pair of second hand Stag cruise lights go for £230 for a pair of second hand ones on Ebay! Does anyone know what the size difference is between the Stag ones and the TR7 ones? Am I too hopeful they are the same size? You can get them new for £11 each new. Martin
  8. Wimpus are you saying that you front disks are 0.75 mm thick or the pad has 0.75 mm left on it?  This seem very thin to me. Unfortunately I can't tell you what they should be as I have ventilated discs on my Spitfire. From dim and distant memory I would guess that they would be 8mm thickness. Martin
  9. I know that the American Stags had rear running lights and the UK didn't I like the idea of fitting them to my Stag. Is there a cost effective way of doing this without paying stupid money for the American ones? Any suggestions Martin
  10. I'm going to be looking at replacing my springs and shockers next year and i was wondering what peoples view were? Ideally I like a set of progressive front springs and a set of height and rebound adjustable front shockers and a slightly uprated and slightly lower read springs with some uprated rear shocks. I used GAS on my Spitfire and they were good. What I don't want to do is to make it too hard and bumpy. The Chris Wittor ones look good to me but is there anything else I should consider? Martin
  11. I have a 2.5 spitfire with an 1850 gearbox and a 3.63 and I thinks its about right. I don't drive it as hard as Clives Zetec but it is a cracking car to drive. I suppose it depends if you want to rev the nuts of it all the time or if you want a good torque engine that will realy accelerate without have to change gears all the time. Martin
  12. So I suppose you could go for crossplys if you wanted ready bad tyres! 😉  Would they be any good for drifting?  I am only joking. Were crossplys ever standard on the early Spitfires or GT6's? Martin

    GT6 Seats

Have you tried Newton Commercials they are normally good for these bits? Martin
  14. I had to add a electric pump as the manual one could not pump enough fuel for the 2.5 straight six and high speed. It used to get a misfire at about 95 which was not ideal. We confirmed this on a  rolling road. Now I have a Facet located next to the battery. I beleive it should be monuted by the pump it it seams to work ok. It should have a fuel regulator I beleive, but it doesn't . It does make it alot easier to start and it seems to cope with any vapor lock situations too. I would recomend it, Martin
  15. Richard Yes I have a spin on conversion already. I'll put this on the back burner for the moment Martin

    Oil cooler

I am in the process of collecting the bits to convert my Stag from Auto to manual plus overdrive. I'm noticed that the car has a transmission cooler on it. So it set me thinking is it worth fitting an oil cooler to the car once I remove the transmission cooler? I think it would be obvious to use the same location but what do other think? Is there any choice on oil cooler takeoff plates? Thanks Martin
  17. Try looking for a remote servo for a Mini (Rover) I beleive they are very similar but may require soem tweeking. Martin
  18. Paul Yes I would consider it but I've not seen any. Do you know of anyone that makes one? Martin
  19. Just seen an advert for an Aluminium Fuel tanks for a TR5 -6. Just  wondered if it is possible to fit one of these in  a Spitfire?
  20. I've got Leather MX5 seats in my Spitfire and it probably one of the best modifications I have made to the car. But Clive it right if you are over 6'2" then thay are not ideal. But it is horses for courses! Martin
  21. I am sure many years ago someone fitter a larger TR petrol tank into a Spitfire. Does anyone remember this and know any details? Martin
  22. So if you keep your nuts tight is isn't un usual to snap the odd one and even longer studs don't realy help. I've changes to M12 and you can do them up as tight as you like without worrying about snapping them. My view is that safty first (where have I heard that before?) I would seriously recomend M12 it could save your life! Martin
  23. Don't forget its not just about BHP but don;t forget Torque? I still think that the 2.5 is still the best engine and the engine keeps the front end on the ground at high speeds. None of this front end going light rubbish! Try and get yourself a ride in one if you can? Don't forget they sound better than a 4 cylinder too! Martin
  24. I have a pair of HS6's on my 2.5 Spitfire with, as Clive suggest Dolly Sprint Dashpot. Works a dream and the carbs have been mega reliable and give out reasonable power (130 BHP) and reasonable economy low 30's is possible with a light foot. Would recomend them Martin
  25. Ok so it looks like Clive is correct. Looks like I need to put the rollbar up for sale! Thanks for all the input, Martin
