  1. Can I have a P please Clive? Not sure it as the same ring..... All works ok for me... Martin M
  2. Wim can I suggest if you already have them why don't you try them and see if they work?  If not just go back to the orignal until you can get the stronger ones?     Martin
  3. Interesting point about Jess Brake/Cook being pregnent . I wounder if anyone was conceived on the RBRR.....!   Martin
  4. There has not been much in the way of posts for Stags for a while. Does anyone have any details or thoughts of any celebrations that will be happening next year as it is the 50th year since the Stag was first produced. I am sure the SOC will be doing something but we are not all member of the SOC.   Martin
  5. I went from a 2.5 Spitfire to a Stag and Robs point are valid but if you have picked up some mechanical skills over the years a Stag should not be beyond you. The main difference you will find is that it is a Grand Tourer not a sports car. If the engine has been changed our for a Rover V8 or a Triumph straight 6 I wouldn't discount it either. Mine still had the Triumph V8 in it and over the 5 years I have had it  has been fine but from what I have read when they go wrong it can be costly and complex. The other point to consider is that engine and to some degree some of the gearbox spares are becoming costly and some of the remanufactured parts quality can be suspect. I would suggest you go and drive one and the V8 noise did it for me..   You are only young once!   Martin
  6. Roger Just got round to moving the alternator and the only problem I can across was that the Wards loom was only 4 feet long. Tony Hart recommend running the wiring behind the front valance but with the Wards loom it is too short to do this. What will end up doing is replacing the loom with a home made one to keep all the wiring away from the engine. The look is only made up of three leads.   Martin
  7. Is there an easy way of telling the difference between and Mk1 head and a Mk 2 head? I assume that a Mk2 head is better than a Mk1? Can Mk1 head be fitted to a Mk 2 block and are the ancillaries interchangeable?   Thanks in Advance Martin
  8. I believe that the standard poundage was 180lbs . If it were me i would stick to the lower end unless you are going to do track days? Martin
  9. I believe that the standard poundage was 180lbs . If it were me i would stick to the lower end unless you are going to do track days? Martin
  10. Was the under bonnet fuel filter full when she was having the issues? Fuel pumps can cause issues and the easy check is to see you have fuel in the filter and then work from there? Martin
  11. A common challenge with the Stag is that to get the battery out you have to release the power steering pump. I know some people have moved there battery to get round this. What are the preferred options? Or is there a way of moving the power steering pump out of the way?   thanks   Martin
  12. So I did replace the hoses the main issue I had was that the high pressure one has a heavy duty rubber pipe which was longer that really necessary so you had to hold it in a u shape bend and then get the metal fitting to screw into the pump at the right angle. Also I found I had to re bend the steel pipes to the correct route. I got there in the end.... Martin
  13. I am just about to replace my power steering pump hoses. It looks a simple job I assume it is undo replace and then bleed by turning the steering from one side to another to get the air out? In the manual it mentions a filter but it is not clear where it is. Is it worth taking it out and clearing it? Where the hoses attach to the steering rack I would have expected a seal of some form but as far as I can tell there isn't one? Also can someone confirm that I should use ATF for the oil? Many thanks in anticipation   Martin
  14. Howard, I must use the Rimmers site more the diagram is spot on!  Many thanks for the post   Martin
  15. George That is who I have used. The challenge is I needed to find the existing Hazard flasher unit. On investigation this afternoon it appears that it is behind the shelf below the glove box. On the off chance I just changed the turn flasher unit and then changes out the indicator bulbs  and the hazards worked on the old flasher unit.   So all sorted   Martin
  16. I am just about to go LED lights and I need to replace my side and hazard flasher units. I have found the side flasher unit but the location of the Hazard unit is not obvious. Does anyone know of the top of their head where it is?   Thanks Martin
  17. Richard and Clive, That would be my view too. Just a thought though...   Martin
  18. There is a very nice magazine out in WH Smiths and it goes through all the TR's and documents them. One thought that sprung to mind is I know how the Stag got its name but was there ever any thought of calling it a TR? I suppose you could say that it is not a sports car and it is a four seater and therefore does not fit with being a TR. It was on sale at the same time as the TR6 too. Or was the Stag being pitch as above the TR's? Any thoughts   Martin
  19. Richard excellent I didn't think about looking at that. So Pete is working on a Stag gearbox!   Martin
  20. Richard   thanks for this so Pete has it in pieces at the moment and he is just a little unsure of the input shaft sizing. Do both the 2000 and Stags have the same number of splines on the input shaft?   Martin
  21. Gents Just checking I have what I think is a Stag gearbox and it has a 10 spline input shaft is this correct for a Stag gearbox? The box looks a bit of a bitsa so I want to check that it is the right one   Many thanks   Martin
  22. Very interesting so the V12 that would have been in the 4.5- 5 litre size I would imagine. I would guess they wouldn't have been able to shoehorn it into a Stag? Martin
  23. I ran a 2.5 in my Spitfire 1500 for many years. If you upgrade the brakes and suspension and treat it with some respect your should be ok. As previous comments don't go drag racing or drifting in it though... Martin
