    fitting new wings

They are 13/60 wings... I think i might have cut the reinforcements removing the old wings.  Thought they might have to fold the flange back is it easy to do with hammer and dolly, or is another method better? Any other anomalies as all i have original are the inner wheel arches and top panel!

    fitting new wings

Has anyone fitted new wings to the Herald Bonnet. Both the new wings have folded forward lips where it meets the front light/grill panel. Do these need folding back or trimming off?

    Bonnet

Mine started in 2010, couple of years back I went to the Triumph show at Gaydon. I saw some right wrecks still on the road, which inspired me to get it to a position where it will be a rolling Resto.  So mine will be hopefully to the tester this year then I'll know what needs fixing...

    Bonnet

There area few pics on this link.  Not sure if it's of any help.  Probably not the best welder out there! http://triumphherald.weebly.com/boot-and-bonnet.html Hadnt seen your site before Matt interesting viewing. Where are you up to now? On the three bonnets i have had one had a good top panel, all three have had rough wings, one is reusable but had already been repaired. The wheel arches i can use again between the three! The front panel rotten on all three, hence the need for repair. Its just the bonnet then off for an MOT.
  8. is it a negative earth? If not it will need to be converted to that first off. I followed this guide http://www.northcotts.clara.net/tsscdevon/technical/alternator/alternator.html but I used the proper brackets from spitfire graveyard or plimmers

    Bonnet

After having a rotten bonnet on the car then collecting another rotten but slightly improved bonnet then collecting another freebee bonnet I have decided to build one decent one out of the best panels and some new panels. This will be completed on the car so as to assist with lining everything up. Has anyone done this , and if so could you share some of your learnt wisdom?
  10. That sounds like a bodge, easier to separate than spot welds though
  11. It looks ok on the face of it but it appears longer. I have a front panel and placing next to it the fit is poor.
  12. I ask because I have this panel I got from eBay as a herald panel but it appears slightly too long by about 1cm,also the front lip is pressed forward not back as I would expect.
  13. Is there any difference between a Vitesse Mk2 Front Wing and a Herald 13/60 front Wing.

Could be the diff, if it's quiet on the drive side and just a slight whine on the overrun then I wouldn't worry too much. If it's knocking then that's something else! The pre-load on the pinion bearings tends to go as they wear but that can be restored by re-shimming. If you can feel any play at all in the pinion then they are well worn. Keith in terms of play i have the diff installed ATM, do you mean twist prop, in which case I have some play turning back and forth with wheels on ground. In terms of pushing pinion in and out its difficult to say with prop installed, or i don't know the technique
  15. Read that doesn't really help as my noise is happening when i lift off.
  16. Thats very kind of you.... perhaps we should have a Hereford and Worcester group? I may take you up on that offer.
  17. Bumping for some ideas still?

    Carb Problems..

New Jet and Needle and jet properly centred seems to have helped
  19. Hi whilst taking the Herald 13/60 up and down the the lane at the back of mine (max 2nd gear) i notice when i lift off the throttle a whine, almost a knocking. I know I replaced UJ and had the prop balanced with new UJ.   The outer Differential bearings and oil seals were also replaced. Any ideas?
  20. I think i found the problem there was some paint scratched off and found it earthing. I em expecting a fail on the MOT as its the first time I will have taken it in many years so thats not much of a worry!
  21. I do have standard Herald Wheels which have 155/80 R 13 you have  a considerably wider tyre, 30mm so which may be your issue?  Perhaps some sort of block under the spring will pull the wheels more upright?
  22. I have a large double garage i guess i am lucky in that! Is it one side or the other or both? it one side i guess its a case of tub not central if it is then  I guess its a flat spring pushing it out.
  23. I have a private lane for my "not quite as naughty as yours drives" and y rear wheels sounded like they are rubbing occasionally but i could see no marks on the tyres and the gap is quite is large so cant see that it is rubbing?

    Carb Problems..

I ordered new metering needle and jet to be sure. Before removing the jet and needle i backed off the nut underneath the float bowl screwed jet up and dropped the needle into the jet, did it a couple of times. Then placed a drift down the damper tube and held the air valve close an nipped up the nut. The air valve seemed to move better. The metering needle looked quite grubby so i suspect for £20 its worth replacing them, especially at the price of petrol!
