  1. Hi All The needle roller bearing in the offside driveshaft had mashed itself and the shaft >:( To add insult to injury the hub distorted as I pulled it off so I ended up fitting a new shaft, new hub and new bearings >:( Bruce
  2. A good result then. We have had 3.45 fitted to our MOD Stag for four years now. As you say the speedo under reads slightly but once you are aware of that it is not an issue. Regards Bruce
  3. Which diff did you end up fitting, 3.45 or 3.7? Regards Bruce
  4. Hi I replaced both drive shafts with new ones when I rebuilt the hubs Regards Bruce
  5. Hi All Whilst attending the North Yorkshire Triumph Weekend our GT6 developed a noise from the rear which gets more pronounced as you go round a left hand corner. It sounds like the offside rear wheel bearings is on the way out. By the time we got back to Crewe, Cheshire the noise was become much more noticeable! If the bearing has faileed them I am a bit fed up as I rebuilt both driveshafts 4 years ago and in that time the car has probably done about 6,000 miles. Is there an alternative assembly I can fit instead of rebuilding the existing? CV joints perhaps? The car is a later Mark 3 Gt6 so has the swing spring setup. Regards Bruce
  6. Hi Mervyn A goodly result ;D Enjoy your car this summer Regards Bruce

Apparently they are a harder rubber and not hollow, originally designed for a TR8. Only time will tell how they perform on our GT6. Regards Bruce

  9. I haven't noticed any adverse vibration in the car. The gearbox mount was renewed as part of the resto 480 miles ago. I will pop down into the pit and have a look at that mount later this week. There is no oil contamination involved as the engine bay is clean which is not surprising considering the resto was only completed last September. Seems odd to me that both times the engine mount has failed it has been on the offside. The nearside mount has done 4,000 miles plus with no signs of deterioration. Bruce
  10. Hi All Whilst tinkering with the GT6 this afternoon I happened to take a look at the engine mounts and much to my disgust found that the offside mount was on the verge of failing >:(. Hey ho you might say, rubber components don't last forever. However, to put this engine mount failure into perspective you need to realise that it has only been on the car for 460 miles after the previous mount failed last October as I was driving the car >:(. The previous one failed by de-bonding away from the metalwork. This one has simply torn itself to bits. At least this time I spotted the problem before it actual broke in two. Fortunately I had a spare in the garage and fitting the replacement only took 45 minutes as I have become quite a dab hand at doing them given all my recent practice! Having my Goliath crane also helps in these situations. Regards Bruce
  11. I bought a Paddocks kit. It included enough material to the A and B posts. Various colours on offer. Regards Bruce
  12. Hi Don't rush into any decisions. Mull the various options over and you will end up making the right one. I know what you mean about missing out on driving the car. When I was restoring our Stag we ended up purchasing our GT6 after about 6 months. When it became time to do the GT6 I was using the Stag as my daily driver so didn't miss out on a driving fix. Regards Bruce
  13. My son is thinking, has Dad left the keys in the ignition?
  14. Hi All The insurance company is asking for photos of the GT6 following its resto as I am obviously wanting to increase its agreed valuation. Well with the sun shining yesterday it was time to get the car out of the garage, give it a quick wash and then head off to Crewe Hall. Here are are a few of the photos plus a comparable one from January 2011. For some reason unknown to me the previous colour of Jasmine Yellow always used to appear white in the photos! A repeat visit with both the Stag and the GT6 needs to be arranged next year Regards Bruce
  15. Hi All Sorted the rough idling this morning. One of the Carb temperature compensators was sticking. Both are now wound tightly closed and the car is idling lovely. :) Now to sort out the leaking spin on oil filter adaptor >:( Regards Bruce (150 miles under the belt)
  16. 7952 wrote:How are you liking the new color now that you've had some time for it to sink in? Hi I am used to it as I have been seeing it in that colour down at the workshop since it was sprayed during May. However, my wife (its her car) has not warmed to it yet. She likes the colour but say it doesn't feel like her car anymore. I am sure that will be sorted once she is driving it regularly again. Regards Bruce
  17. Just noticed that the front grill is on upside down. Doh! Will fix that later this week. Chuckle Bruce
  18. Hi All We made good use of the lovely weather to put some more miles on the GT6. 120 miles on the clock so far and it seems to be running well apart from needing the carbs balancing and the timing checked. Regards Bruce
  19. Hi All Yesterday I took the GT6 out for a local shakedown run after undertaking a few adjustments post MOT. Whilst zipping along a local lane at 50mph on the way back to the workshop, there was thud followed by the engine revs going 4,000+.  ??) I quickly switched the ignition off and coasted to a stop. After popping the bonnet I couldn't see anything immediately wrong so I turned the engine on again and the revs went sky high again instantly :-/. So after getting her towed the 1/2 mile home I investigated further. I found that the accelerator cable had popped out of its mounting cup on the throttle linkage. Upon looking further I discovered that the right hand side engine rubber mount had sheared ??) thereby allowing the engine to drop by approximately 10mm which is presumably what had allowed the throttle cable to jump and hence cause the engine revs to go skywards. The rubber has completely detached from the steelwork. I didn't replace the engine mounts when I did the resto as they were new two years ago. Oh fool me! I hate rubber items on classic cars. So, a new replacement pair of mounts are now on order for fitment later this week. Bruce :(
  20. Plus you will need to undo the pinch bolt where the column enters the steering rack universal joint. Regards Bruce
  21. Hi All Time and weather permitting I am hoping to put a few miles on the GT6 this weekend. Its new and last tax disc arrived in the post today. Come next April it becomes tax exempt like all other Gt6's. I need to richen the mixture up somewhat as it was only registering 0.1% on the emissions where it should be between 0.5 and 2.5%. I would have adjusted at the MOT but I didn't have the carb tool with me. Anyone know many turns I need to make to the needles to move it from 0.1% to 1.5%? They are 1.5" emissions Strombergs where the adjustment is down through the dashpot. Regard Bruce

I have a 3.45 diff on our MOD Stag. Runs well and the rpm is reduced Regards Bruce
