  1. Hi Mike What time are you all setting off on the Sunday morning? It's going to be an early start for me to get there from Crewe. I trust you all have a good trip on the Saturday. I will raise a glass to you all whilst I am at the cricket at Old Trafford, hopefully watching England beating South Africa. Regards Bruce
  2. Hi I am now sorted out with a navigator for this years event. Dale Garlick who was my navigator at last years event will again be joining me Regards Bruce
  3. Hi All Thanks for the numerous offers of advice and loan of driveshafts. Poppyman popped round on Tuesday and we disconnected both driveshafts from the diff. The noise remained so not the driveshafts. Then we disconnected the propshaft from the gearbox. The noise went away so not gearbox. Removed the diff and turned the extension bearing quill shaft by hand. The noise was horrible and the shaft could be waggled side to side! So the culprit is a knackered extension bearing which is an SKF one which I only fitted a year ago. Grrrrr! On the positive side it will be a damn side cheaper than a replacement diff or gearbox! Regards Bruce
  4. Hi All Our Stag has developed a rumbling noise from the rear offside. At this stage I am unsure if it is the wheel bearing or diff related. To eliminate the wheel bearing I want to swap out the driveshaft to see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't I will refit the driveshaft and move onto the diff. If the noise does go away I will overhaul the driveshaft. Does anyone have a serviceable driveshaft/wheel bearing assembly that I could borrow for two weeks to assist me with the fault finding? I will obviously pay postage costs etc Regards Bruce

    Price of tyres

At what age are recommended to replace tyres? I had the ones on our Gt6 fitted in 2009 so have been on the car for 8 years. The fronts are wearing and probably require replacing before winter but the rears are virtually untouched Regards Bruce
  6. Hi Jonno My application will in the post tomorrow. I don't know who my navigator will be yet as Su (my wife) can't make it for family reasons and Brian is unavailable. I will ask for a volunteer at our local area meeting at the end of this month. Bruce
  7. Hi Jonno Apologies for not sending in my application form. Brian isn't free that weekend so I have been looking for another crew member. Anyway it's all sorted now as my wife Su will be driving our Stag and I will be navigating 🙂 Form will be in the post later this week Regards Bruce
  8. Simply a glutton for punishment! Hopefully we will have the same version of the map as you this time Cheerio Bruce
  9. Hi Jon Please put us down on the entry list. Regards Bruce 🙂
  10. Changing the diff extension bearing in situ depends entirely on how tight the bearing in the tube. I have done the job twice on two different extensions. The first one tapped in and out with a drift. The most recent required a 20t press to shift the old bearing and a vice and sockets to fit the replacement bearing. Bruce
  11. Thanks guys for all your valued suggestions. Hopefully I will some spare time on Sunday to investigate further. The self park switch does not work. I wonder if that is contributing to the problem? Mind you the self park doesn't work on our Stag either and that doesn't blow it's fuse. I have become very adept at stopping the wipers in the correct place Regards Bruce
  12. Hi All Our GT6 has an irritating habit of blowing a fuse (30A) when I switch off the wipers. It did it whilst I was driving home in the dark on Wednesday night which was irritating given that that fuse also controls the indicators and brake lights! Yesterday as I was getting ready to come home from the Workshop it was raining a bit so I popped on the wipers and then switched them off again. Pop goes the fuse! Four fuses later and I gave up and disconnected the wiper motor so I could drive home with indicators and brake lights. Any suggestions as to what may be causing it? Regards Bruce

  14. Hi Jon With regards to my comments about a full english or bacon butties, I was of course joking Discovering I didn't have to pay for our cups of tea was a nice enough surprise. Regards Bruce P.S. Any chance of you sending out the novice clue sheets please? I would like to work out where we went wrong.
  15. Hi Jon Brian and I thoroughly enjoyed the days activities and would like to thank you and your friends for all the time and effort which you put into organising it. Whilst on the journey home, we discussed whether we would enter another event such as this. The answer was "yes" so please put us down for the same event next year should you choose to do another one Here are some of our thoughts/observations from the perspective of being first timers:- A) starting with the hardest stage does not help the inexperienced. We found we were getting better at working out the clues as each stage progresses, so please leave the hardest to last. B) there was very little time between receiving the clues and the start time, even less for us as we were supposed to go first. C) why do the first timers leave first as the extra time to plot would be helpful D) on the fishbone diagram, we had no idea what to do at the roundabouts as the instruction pack emailed out beforehand only covered left and right hand junctions. E) more time at the staging points to plot the next part of the route would be appreciated by us novices F) we were so busy trying to work out the route, getting lost along the way etc , neither of us had time to look at the other cars on the event. G) a "full english" or "bacon butties" at the starting venue would be ideal Thanks again for a fun day. Regards Bruce P.S. I wonder if that farmer has calmed down?
  16. Hi Guys With our Stag and its standard electric fuel pump, when starting the car I let the pump prime the carbs before turning engine over. It usually catches first time. With the GT6, the engine has to crank over several times before the mechanical pump gets the fuel to the carbs. If I fitted an electric fuel pump to the GT6 would I get better starting as per the Stag? With regards to Huggo pumps, is the 133010 model the one to go for? Regards Bruce
  17. Hi All Thanks for all the different suggestions. Starter motor bolts and engine to gearbox bolts all appear tight (torque marks all still line up) Pressing the clutch pedal whilst the engine is running makes no different All the manifolds appear tight (torque marks all still line up) Rocker cover off and all valve springs appear fine as the engine ticked over Small screw on the rocker shaft is secure The noise has reduced further from when I first heard it! My next plan is to drop the oil and borrow an endoscope from work and stick it into the sump via the oil drain plug to see if anything looks unusual in there. Oil pick up mesh dropped off perhaps? I will also pop the endoscope into the bellhousing via the actuator lever slot to see if anything is rattling around in there. I also need to get into the pit and check out that the exhaust is not touching the underside. Generally I am puzzled(think)(think)(think) Regards Bruce
  18. Hi Jon As we will be travelling down the M6 I don't believe the runners route will affect us. The GT6 is looking doubtful duty to the mystery clateering noise coming from the engine bay . So we will likely be attending in my Stag instead. Regards Bruce
  19. Thanks Guys I will take the rocker cover off and take a look. The noise reduced and virtually dissapeared as the engine warmed up. Regards Bruce
  20. Evening all Started up the gt6 for the trip to work this morning and as I brought it out of the garage I heard a horrible noise   from the engine bay. Didn't have time to investigate so put it back into the garage. Been out this evening to take a look. It starts and ticks over fine and shows good oil pressure. However there is a horrible noise coming from the rear of the engine close to the distributor and fuel pump. It sounds metallic and clattering. The noise does not appear to change with engine speed. Any suggestions? Regards Bruce
  21. Hi Richard The GT6 is the chosen chariot for this event.  Brian (Gresley ) has agreed to be my co pilot. Regards Bruce
