  1. Thanks for that Ian, much appreciated. Mark
  2. Hi Dave I've got the same Dunlop steels as you fitted 185 70 13 Firestone tyres. I have a Mk2 Vitesse but using Kingston Sports cars sliding splines, in place of roto-flex,with a  de-cambered spring The car will sit about 3" lower than standard.
  3. Thanks for all the replies. My main concern was that the offset would make the wheels stick out to far and rub the arches, issues I am having at the moment. My car came with Wolfrace wheels which I have never been a big fan of. Had them on a Stag and a Scimitar also. When I replaced the tyres which were Firestones I played it safe and fitted the same size 165 70 13 tyres all be it Yokohama A drive. At the same time I lowered the car, inch spacer at the rear and shorter front springs and this is when the problems started. Passenger side rear wing was replaced a couple of years ago and I have no clearance problems but the drivers side rubs occasionally, but when carrying a passenger its terrible. Wheels are 5.5 13 e.13. Ian did you need to order special wheel nuts for the M12 studs to suit the Revo's or are they just plain 60 degree nuts. thanks Mark
  4. Getting to the stage where I will have to either cut or roll the inner lip of the wheel arch to give tyre clearance. I am tempted to trim off a piece in the centre as that should give enough clearance, but don't want it to look butchered or a bodged so was considering rolling them. Never attempted rolling before and should have tackled this whilst the tub was off and upside down but I didn't look that far ahead at the time. Is it worth buying a wheel arch roller or just score it and tap or fold it over. This section is all new metal so don't want to distort of damage the outer wheel arch . Any suggestions?
  5. Hi all Whats the verdict on fitting the new manufactured revolution wheels? I read on hear of offset problems failing the upper wishbones. I intended to get some for my Mk2 Gt6 but they could possibly end up on my Mk2 Vitesse. Also will they fit onto the M12 Freelander studs I have and can you get the wheel nuts to fit the revo's and M12 Studs. Lots of questions I no but any advice appreciated. Mark
  6. Thanks Brendan I do have the padded pieces that run along the tunnel cover along with the arm rest and knee pads. i cant remember why or when i removed them possibly when I renewed the clutch a few years ago. It will all go back one day when i eventually restore the car.
  7. Heres a pic of the type of seat I have fitted to my GT6
  8. BrendanD wrote:Park Lane Classics - much cheaper than Newton Commercial.. Yes I spoke with Park Lane and he suggested Newton, as he doesn't produce Mk2 GT6 covers and foam.
  9. Hi All My GT6 Mk2 is fitted with the later low back recliner front seats and are really worn now as to be expected. I have lived with these for about 10 years and to be honest has been way down on the list of things to do as the car really needs some panel work and a respray, engine etc. I am rebuilding my vitesse so have been happy to keep it MOT'd and use it. A year or so ago I bought an mx5 Mk1, which is water tight quick and comfortable, and jumping back into the GT6 makes me realise how uncomfortable and rough the seats are. I would like to rebuild but after making enquires to rebuild them myself is going to cost the best part of a grand. The other option is after market seats but the ones I have seen all look pretty poorly made and nowhere near the quality of the originals. Whats your thoughts? Bite the bullet and rebuild or go for an aftermarket 60's style seat. The prices are based on Newton commercial kits, independet upholsters worked out a lot dearer.
  10. I am not sure what the cost of them is from Kingston Sports cars i got them unused from an unfinished project, and I going back a few years.
  11. Yes that is the set up, but I have done away with the Rotoflex and instead am using Kingston Sports Cars sliding splines.
  12. Hi all Trying to get the Vitesse back on the road after 7 years. Fitted TLD sliding splines with a  flatter rear spring. I think the standard spring is 165mm in height unloaded, measured from the centre of the lowest leaf to the floor and this is 120mm. I have the Jigsaw Rear Rotoflex Damper Conversion Kit and was hoping to use some adjustable Spax I had put to one side.  Closed length is about 9.75 eye to eye and looks to be to long to fit between the rear vertical link and top bracket even at the close length. Any one had any experience of this conversion and the length of shock they used? Thanks Mark
  13. Thanks for the link. Ordered one last week arrived today. Great price. Going to have a go at fitting it to my Vitesse. I See he has only one left of the two spade version, i I think the price has gone up by a fiver.
  14. Really nice looking/sounding car. Great combination. All credit to your engineering and fabrication skills. Obviously lots of work gone into this.

    Wheels

Just for information I have a set of plain steel dunlops 5.5 x 13 ET 16, they fit a MK3 Spit and a Vitesse, but rub on the arches of my Mk2 GT6 fitted with rotofex. Tyres are 175 70 13. The later Spits and GT6 have more space in the arches but not sure how they would fit with the later longer shafts. Mark
  16. As these are no good has anyone got a set of standard plain steel wheels as fitted to GT6 mk2, Vitesse, Spitfire mk3 for sale? can collect say 50 mile radius of London. I am in SE London. Thanks
  17. I did wonder. Took a chance as they cost me very little and where only 5 miles away. Very rusty, so wont waste any time cleaning them up. Thanks
  18. Hi All Won some steel wheels from a Triumph 2000 which are 5 x 13 x 32 with a part no 313311 stamped on them. Does anyone know if they will fit a Mk2 GT6? Just worried about the offset. Thanks Mark

    Rear wing

Hi I bought an offside rear wing from TD Fitchets several years ago and it wasn't brilliant. It was about 8mm to short in length, the pressing for the wheel arch was not as deep and as sharp, and the lower front section is flat as apposed to having a slight curve to follow the door. I think Fitchetts make the wings and supply the rest of the Trade, I may be wrong. Most panels I have bought from them for the Vitesse GT6 and Mk3-4 Spitfires have been really good, so maybe I just got a duff one. If I had to do it again I would try and repair the original wing instead of replacing it.
  20. Looking really good. One day I will start on my GT6. which has a 'rat' look at the moment, part primer part faded paint. What paint did you use for the primer, etch and finish? Mark

    GT6 Diff drain

If you use a 3/8 NPT tap, as the thread is tapered there is no need for brass washers, o rings etc. as per the original sump and gearbox drains, it self seals, mine did anyway.

    GT6 Diff drain

Hi I have fitted drain plugs to my Mk2 GT6 and Vitesse diffs. I used a 3/8 NPT tap which is the same thread as the gearbox drain plug, as I had a couple spare. Both drilled whilst up on ramps. Mark
  23. esxefi wrote:OP if it were me I would strip both engines anyway. Seeing as you have them free standing you could construct a decent unit from either depending on the condition of each unit. what is your intention regards induction, cam choice, any head work and exhaust system and what power are you looking for? Hi all, thanks for all the replies. I will use an equivalent or close to a PI cam and probably use HS6 carbs. I do have PI throttle bodies but intend on using them to EFI my Vitesse. The head I will have to pay someone to port and skim, just finding the right person at a reasonable price to do it. Exhaust will be 6-3-1, but again trying to find the right one from the right supplier. 150+bhp would be nice. To be honest I am still trying to finish the Vitesse, 7 years in, and I bought these engines now as they were a good price. So realistically I probably wont touch these for a year or so to give me time to finish the Vitesse and get some money together. The GT6 is used most days so will keep that on the road until the vitesse is done. mark
  24. Looking on the Triumph 2000 -2500 register I think the MM7... is a 2500TC lump not an S, on a 1974-75 car. It lists MG1...  2·5PI Mk2 Oct 1969 – May 1974 and thereafter the prefix is MN so still not sure. Mark
  25. Hi all I won a couple of 2.5 engines off ebay with the intention of eventually fitting one to my Mk2 GT6. I fancied a 2.5 as I have only owned 2 litre cars. Not sure of the condition of either, one turns over by hand the other feels tight so need I to give both a good soak down the bores with WD before I go any further. Both have some end float but not that excessive. The seller said that both were good running engine's before being stored away for future projects that never happened. One has the MG prefix starting 21 which I think is a late PI and the other MM which has a very short number so believe it is a 2500S. I need to check compression etc. and might have a go at getting them running on the bench. I will probably rebuild one and was wondering if one engine is a better basis for building-up a tuned engine. Thanks Mark
