I recalled yonks ago, wid a 2.5, that the thing would slip in reverse if it had t ,shift some weight IE, a trailer wid a car onit, up a steepish hill butt, at the time,thought it were worn clutches int OD Noo,moer I tink aboot it, it seems as its got sumat t,doo wid the orientatation of the teeth helix and low pressure as the teeth angle, is actually pulling the thing{ clutches } off wen in rev, or in my case, the rear end driving the OD wen going forads, the angles are pushing the clutches into the brake band so wid a low pressure, and the force oft gear teeth, the OD is going into free wheel mode this is why its just happening below 2000 rpms, and higher in lower gears as pump aint turning as fast So, its maybe down to the O rings in the solly end, letting a PSI drop frae one port  { piston } to the other, { sump } As ive checked all others, and OK So will see wots wot when I get the solonoid off im hoping its the O rings ont end gon hard / brittle,or damaged failing that,its the clutch  lining thats dikee Steeve Jackson came to similar conclusions too, So, the Guru,s are deffo wrong on this one , that a OD cant free wheel, as others have  also found oot. Moer investigatoinee,s t,day its deffo coming oot of OD when its hot and its slipping in /oot of OD upto 2000 ish revs in OD top 2nd od,it slips like mad so too is 3 rd Rev counter will drop  frae 2000 ish to 1200 is nearly right away when its hot Butt,speed still remains the same, this is the puzzling bit Just had the sump off, and bunged in new O rings, ion the RH side one, looking frae the frunt it seemed to be a wee bit looose Oil was nice an clean, as just changed it a few weeks ago, its no black as if the clutch bands were wearing away went oot in it, it teks 24 ish miles for it to start its antics and just started as I coming back into the toon So the morrow, I,ll tek the solonoid off, see if thats at fault. Greta GT6  { Nuala } was wid me t,day,  Maybe she chirp in, as She drov it 100 odd miles ont the TR run t,day So second opinion on wots wot wont go amiss!! As this is really puzzling M

Been oot the day, 140 mile roond trip it starts when its well an truly hot and, after some fart,n aboot, in gears in OD, 2,3,4 that its presure related, as in OD 2, its happening right up at 4K revs, butt, flor it, its ok 3rd is aboot 3000 and 4th is 2000 ish So, this I can fathom, what I cant fathom, is why the revs drop to nearly idle even in 2 0d, revs dropped to 1800-2000, in 4 th they go to 1200 ish this I just cant fathom, Will doo a PSI test when box is really hot, after a run as it dont doo it wen cold and I did test wen it wer cold M

Ello Gaz,nope its no the rev counter. was oot last night, and it started dooing same after it got hot. its not going oot of OD, best way t, describe it is, wen ye put GN into neutral on a coast doon, butt it dont go to idle,just drops 500 or so ish revs ok in 4 th most odd symptom,never come across this,n at all M

Heres one I aint ever come across befoer in OD and at below 2000 RPMs, foot oft pedal on cruise doon and rev counter should read 2000 at 52 MPH butt, its started to drop to 1200-1300 rpms as soon as throttle is off { rev counter is mechanical drov oft distributor, so its no electikery related, as can happen wid electric types } put throttle back on, revs come back up, and it drives wid oot slipping above 2000,like 2200+, it dont doo it cleaned oot all plugs int OD sump, clean as owt, fresh oil, PSI reading 650 in 4th at 40 mph, or 2000 rpms Im thinking Uni dirctional clutch, butt, may be wrong, wont be fust time Looked every where ont tinterweb for similar symptom, but nowt there. Any ideas befoer I pull the thingy M
  6. Ello Sam, Alec is reffering t, the shim ye used. T,be hinest wid ye, I fin that way of ..fart,n aboot, totally useless and un called for, bung the thingy on, bolt it doon, and wid a set of feelers, ye can get the end oft feeler, between the bottom of thingy and the gear. try in a few diff spots for an overall figure If yer havin a hard time fitting a feeler in, then bend ends owa a wee bit feeler are cheep, so get yer sell a few sets for things that need bent feelers !!! a £ in a £ shop,!!! if its v v tight, so ye cant, then add a paper gasket, an try agen, Once ye seen what im ona boot, then it,ll all become clear its so so easy this way M

    Price of tyres

    Jimbo,s beat me too it butt, all motor sport tyres have got a shallower tread its only the deeper tread that gives ye a good drip in rain soaked roads any thing else, and a worn tyre will most likely grip better as tread bloks no deforming as much M

The Dolly 1850 LATE type and the TR7 4/5 speeders are 23 splines the earlier type, which are same as OE GT6 are  9{ i think } thick square shaped splines Im running a Hybrid box, hence why I need a finer spline plate Butt,owt wid 23 splines and 8 1/2 inch -215 mm is OK butt, also needs plenty of rivets on em, and a 6 springs some of them had 3 rivets on, an they dropped t,bits M
  11. Fill it up, and wen its int car, open fill plug any excess will come oot. yer not far off wid the amount in noo really really need t,bung in a drain plug easy done, and change oil every year, oil is cheeper than a diff M

All sorted, any Saab clutches i seen, all ed wrong number of splines in  em, Some folk said Volvo plates are same, same agen, could nae see any wid correct spline count maybe there there, but gotta no what t,look for. and, I read ont Dooly forum that the Saab clutch was  ...only 5 KG, 3 KG lighter than OE. think they must ev been coked in copious amounts of Ferodo an clinker cos me own only wieghs in at 4 KG, And, got 3 ford V4 clutch plates for 10£ inc postage so mus,nt grumble there. Not all V4,s ev the same spline count, some are 20 Butt, Escort, Capri, Cortina, Granada 2L ones are same { check spline count, as some are 20 } And TR7, 5 speeders are same as 4 speeders plates there some good bargains on the Bay of  Flee,s like 99p for a rover 2.6 or Ambassador plate. butt, I think they wrong size for ours. as cud,nt fin owt oot aboot size M
  13. Ahaa, getting some where, Butt, which cover,, all of em, !! and which plate, it not that clear looking into this, as some say they will, some they they had problems, And as the Saab one is aboot 7lbs lighter, then thats a good start M
  14. Am i right in thinkin thee,s  Saab 99, 900  clutch plates will fit onto a fine spline 1850  input shaft, or is it an urban myth they are 215 mm same as an OE 1850  / GT6 plate M

    well  i did it t,day, and had to actually take out 37 thou, as it had a bit of a dip in the middle of all the small bits between cyls the most important bit for sealing what Rodger was saying, i have found too as where the valve wall was  opened to unshroud  valves and gasket is now v v close to chamber sides will cc it the morrow, hoping for a 9.7 ish cr M

    Ello Ted, Elec, Ted says you are dead right and I had overlooked that - been thinking about other heads. Or, yer heed is full of rubbish like mine, so cant think at times, !!! join the club. I recon  it,ll be aboot 1.5 ccs as spark side and squish side both slope. 1.5 ccs will make a fair bit of diff really 420 /46.0 = 9.14 420 /44.5 = 9.44 on top of what would be took off so will err ont safe side, then check M
  17. This just aint as straight forads as it seems every time I doo it, keep getting diff results Butt,most likely I aint got the inputs bunged in as cant find owt ont interweb that,ll help me. Wot im trying to fathom is this Chamber vol for a  46 cc butt, take 40 thou off,  { 1 mm } fair enough, easy peasy Butt, the chamber walls slope, so as ye go deeper into chamber, then the CCs will alter  faster{ go down } cos of  the slopes , so chamber is getting less,for same depth, { think i got it reet,!!!} So, any Boffins on here tell me how much the chamber vol will alter 10 thou is roughly 1 cc on a streight sided thingy so 40 thou would =4 cc,s ish butt what would it be, tekn into consideration the slopes. 420  cyl share 46 chamber  = 9.14 wot would it be with 1 mm off, tek,n into account sloping  chamber walls. OR, put another way, would a 40 thou skim, only need to be a 25 thou skim, Answer here please..... M

    Thanks Nick, id found them late last night Ive got a feeling its timings are 33 66 66 33 and time in fig is 107 butt, nee idea of the gaps it needs set too So will get onto them on Monday M

    I got a wot seems to be an OE 5, early 6,  CP camshaft its marked as such in the cam shank butt, its got Holbay 107 LHC  scribed ont end ive measured the cam lobe lift, an its  280 thou no idea of  seat to seat durations  or  gap settings,  or LCA /  time in figs Ive googles all sorts of things, but nowt comes up there is a Spitty holbay cam info, but its nowt near lift of this,n and even the code numbers are way off Any bod,e have an inkling as to what it is M

Mr Sparky Mike,is this an early April fools Vid,!! that is Useless for a decent fit, Maybe, OK for a hone, as thats wot them things are for Butt, for boring, forget it reason, if yer bore es got indents an ridges onit, then thee,s things will just go into indents, an mek em deeper no t,mentionee that yer no getting a constant grind all owa. ye need a Boring bar, this is set to a size an can be adjusted for fit then it needs plateu honed Me Advice forgit it.
