  2. that is a really good addition, our wee cars lights are useless in the rain, motorway spray. coming back frae a sho a few yer back, 2 cars infunt, a GT an a Spitty, one had better bulbs int rear, butt, 50 yards infrunt, could nae see em, Noo, im told, mine are too bight,!!! I feel a Tinkerous itch a coming on, !!! M

  4. What cam isit, non standard, needs much bigger gaps checked yer diaprghms no got a split in em. and mani ,or any where else is no suckin air. M

Wen running Lucas PI in the GT, at low speeds in town, or just idling, the injectors  always stated to go off, fuel boiling int pipes, esp as pipes went owa the rocker box originally routed em along bulkheed bit, then to injectors. a wee bit of help, butt, biggest help was cutting bigg holes , vents int bonnet, higher up than factory vents. this, combined wid having electric engin fan on in town, or when anticipating a stop fora while, worked great only on a few v hot days did they act up. and its been even better wid EFI on, never a prob wid fuel noo On a side line, I got a inlet temp gauge, and wen running at light throttle, this can be showing  25-30 degs  wider throttle, and its showing 10-15 degs,   seen -8 ona cold day, even wen temp is up to normal, and at wider throttles. BUTTT, leave it to idle, wid oot fan on,  and temps can easily go owa 70-75 degs, fan on, it,ll drop to maybe 50 -55 degs. heat has to git oot,  even wid nee fan on, the heat coming frae the side vents is alotttt. wid fan on, its alottt lotttt moer, infact, it can be felt a yard away. At speed, and reach oot, put yer hand owa the vents, and there alott of hot air coming oot, even ona cold day. Try running yer electric fan, befoer ye come to a halt, as I doo. I doo this, no so much for the fuel, butt, for the Ign, as iff too hot, it retatrds the ign, so meks timing alter, dont alter as much wid fan running, 1-2 degs, wid oot, its aboot 10 degs M

  7. Butt, the seals  / shaft cant go any where, !!! unless the outer seal ring is seveeerly gone/missing,!!! I tend to fit 2 in, as most of the smoothe bit that seal sits on is all rusted/ruffly pitted, 2 seals fit in just nice. try it. M

Why is ther weld on the collar,!!! and why a collar on,  got 40 odd int shed here, non like that If its to hold bearing in spot,  then where is it gonna go, it cant go inwards, and it cant go oot wards, most odd. And, yer luky it did,nt go where welds are, as iff de that ona Spitty type shaft { dust cover } it,ll snap wid in a 100 miles Ye been hooing aboot wid one wheel spinning, or both spinning, then suddenly getting grip, an biting !!! can cause tooo much load on one shaft = what ye got . Out of intrest, ive had 2 in wid broken half shafts, both on the smaller side too, and, bot gone in exactly same spot as yours,   IE, where the splines start. just see remnants oft splines on yours M M

    Oil filter

    there are small filters in height avaiable the OE ones advertised with the OE adapter I once read said filters of a reliant.  they fit so housing is verticle, no ona jaunty angle And, a housing that kem with a filter was just that, I fitted to a car. look  at a filter manufacturers PDF chart, and see sizes. M
  10. its no so much as tracking,  just look at all the moderns next time yer walking doon a road,  most, if got some milage on em, will be worn away on ootside edges simple reasons,  LACK of air pressure. 185,s, what aspect,  but what ever, run em at least 8-10 PSI moer. can stop em rolling owa on a corner my frunts are on 40 PSI, even wear. butt, this is mine, found oot by trial an error, plus a infra red thermometer. 5£ is on flea bay M

    John, originality, !!! my olde OD relay, , redundant on,a J type. is powering me Spots, its quite a substantial bit of stuff wen its got into cant beat a good tinker of something in need ofa good tinkering, M

    Dave, see them wee folds of metal ont frunt oft relay, then fold some back, and the innards will pull oot, then ye can see the workings, the contact plate will merst likely be corroded up, clean up wid a fine abrasive file / sandy paper/nail file. and it,ll be as good as new. same too for the bigg OD relays M

Diff pin seal, tek split pin oot, {awkward at times } undoo nut, pull flange off, owk old seal oot, re fit new,n Note, check for wear ridges int flange, yours should be a leather seal, but maybe not, rubber type put grooves in flange, so they no seal v weel, if gota wear bit, pack the seal housing at bottom  to mek new seal move onto a non wear bit,   also, fine polish flange, to get rid of the rust that will be thea. side seals, gotta tek the whole side flange/axle stub oot, the tricky bit is getting the bearing off, as seal is behint it. near hand imposarble on some old,ns, as they seem to stik togither well. Me self, re new bearing if there any play, they no much be wary using a splitter, as they can shatter the bearing outer I med a plate to fit under the flange, this way, can press/pull the bearing  frae the other side, be wary using a puller on flange, it,ll merst likly bend it M
  14. sounds like the collars that hod the  laygear bearings in spot there 4 of em, aboot an 1/8 by 3/16th. could ev dropped oot when dropping laygear in, esp id dummy shaft is no long enough. comes under retaining ring, eva deek on here http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID005683 M

    2 cherry bombs will be v v noisey It will be v v awfull after a while at speed. And, angling a cherry bomb upwards, then it,ll fill wid water. = rust just me tuppence wuth M
  17. Me tinks ye got a rev counter out ofa 4 cyl car. look on the fronts, therea code, read off the code and search it out. Ona GT wid 3.89 the figs are 3.55.1 under where it says RPMx100 and under Smiffs, it says RN-2318/00   maybe diff fora Vit, but maybe not,  think the 3.55.1 is the important bit.               Vits wer never offered with a 3.27, dont care what rimmers say. Nick J has a 3.63 in his, so too have a few others, and his goes well. Nick, advise please. Col, orange line 5500-5900,   6000 red line M
  18. but its redlining at about 75mph in overdrive. In what gear, 2 nd OD, !!!! even a 4.55 will doo moer than that. As its workin oot at 12.5 ish MPH x 1000 rpms, against 21 ish for 3.89 Speedo,or rev counter no right me tinks,or both.!! should be dooing 21 mph x 1000 rpms in top A 3.27 ina Vit,wida 2L maybe pushing it abit. esp wid an OD  init. 3.63 would be a better bet. 22 an a bit in top OD M
  19. its a pree load bit, the hard plastic is compressed doon by the mount, supposed to tek shock loadings oft shaft M
  20. Head gasket, read what I said, If they had the stuff available then, they would have used it as makers doo now. My engine never leaks. Ohh, seal yer bloks water ways, {ie bung core plugs in,on heed, block off water pump housing} and fill wid Phosphoric acid , leave for a few days, it comes oot as clean as new bare metal. M
  21. Ive been useing high temp blak silicon selant for yonks last engine got it every where, NO gaskets  any where what so ever, gaskets leak. Most moderns use this set up. butt, some folk must like leekee engines I think,!!! As for cyl heed, I bung a thin bit of the stuff along the spark plug side, as this bit alwys seems to leak, No matter if the gasket has a coating or not, oil seems to seep between gasket /heed, Before  the gasket varnish or wat eva it is has got upto temp an melted. Show me a T engine that dont leak, esp after a blast,!!! Glue yer rocker box gasket onto engine side only,not into the box. John, tek,n the wee plugs oot, wak a Torx, ora spline drive in. never fails, butt allen keys will. why are allen keys so so soft,!!! M
  22. what car isit, be wary if ona Roto, as they are 40+ years olde. and can just snap off,mine did whenst on the move. Me self, just tighten it till its got nee slack, an locktite the nut for good measure. Cant say aboot Spittys though, some one will M

    Block drain tap

    wen dooing me olde new engine, could see loadsa crap,barnicles and groths inside the wter jackets. so filled it up wid Phosphoric acid,aboot 20% worth mix, heed as well left it bubbling away for a week,   wid occaisional scraping wida long  screwdriver to shift stuff.  there were some pile o sheite kem oot of it when emptied, And, alott of nice smoothish shiney steel when finnished. Acid was v v black M
  24. well if the crank pulley is set in, then it needs to come ootwards or is this OK, and other 2, water and alt pully at fault. M
  25. John, no so much up on Spittys, but on the Sixs, there shims behint the crank pully on mine, there were shims for the crank sproket and also shims for the pully,there wer 2, 10 thou shims in there. so mebe yer missing crank pully shims,!!! M
