My wife is forever pointing out errors with costumes (she was a theatre/tv/film costumière) and will complain that in a period piece someone is wearing a dress 5 years later than the date set etc. This very morning she started to read a new book received yesterday and pointed out that the illustration on the cover is dodgy. The book is set just after WW2 but the young lady is wearing a dress from 1932, I did say that maybe she hadn't got anything newer 😉. Didn't work as she replied the dress is a haute couture job.

Just ordered the parts needed for the rear brakes - cylinders, adjusters definitely needed to be replaced (at least on one side), mounting kit for the cylinders just in case & flexibles as there is a suspicion one was causing a blockage. When they arrive I'll take them up the road to the mechanic who has the car in his garage. You don't think I was going to get my hands dirty did you? 😁

The one I've got is showing signs of wear after all the years of (mis)use and neglect. I'm keeping an eye out for a good second hand one on e bay . . .

What have I done recently to the Triumph? Well Wednesday morning took it out for its first outing of the year, it took a little longer to start than usual - it was a cold and frosty morning. Drove it the 3 Kms to my local garage and left it for him to look at the rear brakes. One sticks from time to time. I await his diagnostic. OK, so I wimped out, my reason being I have health problems which make working under the car difficult plus the car gets to sit in a nice garage for a while. Mind you I have done the difficult work of checking out stocks of the likely parts to be replaced from suppliers in France and will order any needed. The parking area at home does look a bit empty without it 😵

Add to that Police Municipale, employed and controlled by the city/town council. Gendarmes as you say are military, Police Nationale are civil (and as such are allowed to belong to a union unlike military personnel). Both come under the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior. Their roles are the same, and again as you say, the Gendarmerie is found in rural areas such as where I live and the Police Nationale in urban areas. Both armed as standard. The gendarmes are the descendants of the maréchaussées, created during the 100 years war to police the conduct of the army - hence why they are military - their role was extended to civil duties in 1536. France does like to make things complicated whenever it can 🙄

The gendarmes won't like that, although it is a great roundabout. Just pluck up your courage, don't look in the rear view mirrors, if there is a gap go for it before someone else does. The last time I went round my wife just stared at her feet, I was well pleased with myself as I intimidated a bus and won - dont' think he liked being beaten by a 'provençal'. I imported to France a car from the UK in 2015, pre Brexit of course, and it was straight forward. Now that the UK has left the EU paperwork and taxes, let alone transport will be far more complex. I would look at getting a French transport company collecting it and taking it to a depot near a port and you picking it up from there. Good luck.
