Hi all the Spitfire GT wont be making the RBRR, it needs a couple things doing but I really have no time to do them with work being very busy and the car being 500 miles away. I wish everyone all the best and have a safe trip. Chris.

Advice on knocking out wheel studs please
CHRIS211083 replied to John Bonnett's topic in Running Gear
I didn't need to drill the hole in the backing plate for my rear studs. Try moving the flange round till they slip in. Just fiddly. Chris.- 14 replies

I've spoken to Dave at canleys and he said that he has over 900 kits sold and no issues with them spining the races. As there is no movement in the race, just it rotates I'm going to clean the hub and then apply Loctite 603 to the edge of the race and let it drain into what ever gap there might be. Will do both inner and outer bearing races as both are able to spin. That should hold them fine and the bearings look fine so all should be good. Chris.

The alloy hubs from Canleys have the races lock tighted in so no rotation on those. The bearing are good quality and have seals on the bearings each end. I'm very happy with mine but the Gt6 ones will also work fine. Chris.

I have a Honda Civic 1.3 IMA hybrid 2004 manual gearbox. It does 70mpg in a car weighing 1300kg. Its an assisst motor so the engine is very efficient and high tech but it needs the boost from the battery to propel it along at a quick rate. A spitfire of 800kg sounds like an ideal platform when the enngine is converted to rear wheel drive for your project. Chris.

When you turn the adjuster the first turn back it might not be on the cam flat. So move the spanner/adjuster forward and back a touch while rocking the wheel. Some times you think its not released till you do this. Then you realise it was just off the cam. Also the only rear shoes you should use are the mintex ones. Alternately get the old ones re-shoed with mintex 1144 liners at a shoe liner specialist. Chris.

New rear spring - settlage and handling
CHRIS211083 replied to yorkshire_spam's topic in Running Gear
I installed a 1/2" spacer on mine when it still had a metal body and it made the handling so much better with the rebuilt spring. I would recommend driving with weight in the boot first and have 4 wheel alignment done. Chris.- 11 replies

I'd call this the south but some may call it midlands. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Spitfire-Tub-/331436581611?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d2b28e2eb I think your going to struggle to find a tub that doesn't need some work. This is were that other abandoned project would have been much quicker to finish. Call Chic Doig Sports cars if you need a tub in good condition he may have one left or can get hold of one. Chris.

Have you tried playing with the tyre pressures to reduce the road noise. Also poly Blue wish bone bushes not the red as they are for race only. Also how is your steering rack mounted???? Poly blue again is the best option, if you have solid rack mounts then sell them on. Unfortunately you are limited with how civilised you can make the ride but I've actually very happy with the quality of ride in my Spitfire/GT6. Chris.

Bruce, I have your answer. It aint cheap but they are bomb proof. Summer bros axles. I have a set and they have a much better bearings and bearing housing design etc the shaft is also uprated to be the strongest it can be. They are the longer shaft which is why I have not fitted them yet as I need the shorter shafts. I wont be selling these, as my new 180bhp engine arrives in the next few weeks. So you would need to get a quote from Summerbros which will be very eye watering. I paid £600 for my second hand set which was about half price if i remember correctly. However they are a direct fit and require no mods and should last a very long time. This I will be testing once they are shortened. Chris.
