  1. Lots of threads on this forum about bearing quality. Some not very good some ok. It depends on you chosen use for the car. Vp2 are the ones everyone tries to get but they are not easy to find. More people will reply soon with more info. Chris.
  2. The Huco may look like a copy but it's made in Germany to much higher standards. I used mine through all weathers in freezing conditions and it never missed a beat. I wouldn't buy the Su one. Lets just say Ive had enough of buying the cheaper part that doen't last as long. I'm now EFI and sold it on to another CT Member but can't remember who??? Chris.
  3. Or even better ditch all the crap pumps listed above and get a Huco fuel pump designed for carbs with an auto pressure regulator. It also sucks so can go anywhere you want to put it. Had one on my spitfire and the reassuring priming noise when you turn the ignition on is so comforting. Then when you start the car the pump cannot be heard(unlike the others you listed). I would also recommend buying a second hand fuel pump inertia switch which you put inline with the pumps positive wiring. Here is a link to the inertia switch you need. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-406-fuel-cut-off-switch-/251574456725?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a93019195 There are two gerneral types of switch, first is the two wire one which just goes in line with the power wire. The second is the three wire which also is run inline but the third wire can light a bulb for the dash or send and ecu an signal. Both work fine and are cheap. This switch is used on almost every modern car about and will cut the power to the pump in a crash or roll. Well worth having. Here is a link to the pump. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FUEL-PUMP-ELECTRIC-SUCTION-HUCO-133010-ENGINE-BAY-FITMENT-/360758769989?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item53fee5f945 Don't waste your time on the other pumps, just buy the right one the first time. German built and will last forever. Chris.
  4. Maybe be a solenoid problem or even wiring catching on chassis as speed increases. Chris.

    Vr1 oil

Castrol is the same as the comma stuff. I used 20/50 vr1 and had good oil pressure etc. Was very impressed as it started thinner than the other stuff so cold cranking was easier but it didn't get any thinner when hot. ideal if you ask me. I also tried halfords but it wasnt as good as vr1. Chris.
  6. Hi James,              Its 123kg without bits and bobs attached. The 1147 is heavier at about 135kg. I also have a book figure of 94kw so 126-128bhp. The Iron block is cheaper than the alloy for mass produce. The small port is a good motor but you should have gone for the 20v as it's 160bhp out of the box, has individual throttle bodies with velocity stacks as stock and is the same weight as the lower powered versions. However the Zetec se is only 82kg and 150 with throttles, you can see why I went this way. Willk be nice to see it once you have finished. You should start a thread showing the mods you needed to do. Do you need to mod the chassis to fit this engine??? Chris.
  7. Do you have the 16v red letters(earlier black letters) or 20valve(chrome letters) 4a-ge. 16v is 128bhp and needs the stock manifold and ecu to keep low end torque. The 20valve is a different beast and almost 160bhp in stock form is possible but they are a Iron block so are 123kg without bits and bobs. Chris.
  8. I think the type 9 gearbox conversion is very easy and cheap to do. The 5-6 gear isn't needed really. Four gears to accelerate is fine and with 4th being 1-1 and 5th as overdrive usually 0.82. an extra lower gear would just make 0-60/0-100 times slower. 6th is just more weight in the gearbox that wouldn't be used. Chris.
  9. The V6 boxes are recommended for the 6 pot triumph engines. Some on the Spitfire/GT6 forum can answer this question. Better ask there. Chris.
  10. #112 Team Sherrington booked in the Premier inn Enfield on the Thursday and Sunday. Fingers crossed. Chris.
  11. I went for polybush Blue all round mate as I want it to absorb the bumps not transmit them through to me. Most go for red but then complain the cars ride is harsh. Saying that everyones different and many told me the Monza exhaust is very loud but to me it's quieter than the 2" large bore most people go for. Go figure??? I would recommend the Blue polybush on everything. Chris.
  12. Agree'd on getting there early, I think we will arrive a day early and leave a day later. Travelling from Scotland down was never going to be nice on the endurance side of things but I think 24hrs should be enough recovery. Last night while talking to the wife on the phone, I think it actually hit her that this RBRR is going ahead for Car 112 and shes went quite sheepish!!! She said she wanted to do this with me and now she will be. Ha Ha. She says she isn't organizing things till the car is mot'd and officially on the road. I think both of use were embarrassed for not making it last time. Can't wait I just hope I get time and have enough cash to make sure everything is properly sorted on the car. I'm also really looking forward to meeting everyone properly. I've only every spoke to people in passing at the Edinburgh airport check point. All the help, opinions and kind encouraging words I've received though this journey can now be thanked for in person. Fingers crossed all goes well. Chris.
  13. The rear end should be lovely over the bumps. I've got lovely rear end suspention over bumps. The front is harder and heavier damped but should be soft and flexible over bumps. If it aint then adjust or replace worn bits. Chris.
  14. I second ferny on this. 24 front and 26/27 rear. Chris.

    overdrive

Rimmerbros have a Overdrive solinoid wireing kit for spitfires. I'm sure the wireing wont mind being in a different car. There should be a solenoid to stop wrong engagement I think. Chris.
  16. Ok Vitesse200,                     Simple fix. Call Chic Doig sports cars for a second hand one. Or he may even have a new one stored in his TRIUMPH Aladdin cave. Call him don't email as they are overwhelmed with emails as it is. Chris.
  17. Glass of port for me. Stops all my aches..........Till the next morning. Ha Ha. To stop the bone shaking I would recommend progressive front springs. I got them from a guy who lives in Russia and they make the car handle great as well as soft over bumps. Chris.
  18. Cheers Cookie,                     Will be good to see you again. Will you be at the drivers meeting??? I think it would be good for your son to have both of the people he can look up to on the same photo(yourself and I). As for the super star footballer, I think he deserves his own photo as that is some amazing achievements he has managed. Thank god for Google. Ha Ha. Chris.
  19. Did you use rubber rack mounts or alloy??? What tyre pressure are you running. Did you get wheel alignment checked??? Also what universal column joint did you use there are rubber bushed ones and solid ones. Chris.
  20. My Personal Favorite. I was saluting some fellow Royal Marines who where hanging over the barrier in the stand Cheering. That was a good day, fingers crossed driving my Spitfire GT will make me feel almost as proud. Chris.
  21. What this Guy??? Fingers crossed he will be Commonwealth Games champion by then too!!! Ha Ha. Celebrity??? No just in the right place at the right time. Chris.
  22. Entry sent off early this week. Cars nearly road worthy. Will be "Team Sherrington" in the T6 Spitfire GT and fingers crossed we make the start this time. The wife isn't holding her breath. Chris. :D
  23. Us round tails gotta stick together. But seriously my heart sank and the excitement I could see I was missing out on last time. I've been sat in the back ground for so long dreaming of my perfect Spitfire that I've missed the reason for building it in the first place. Driving it!!!! Cant wait. Chris.
