  1. I've just replaced mine with a chain-pull Victorian WC complete with glass and a goldfish, as per advice. Will let you know. (dance) patronising - present participle of pa-tron-ize (Verb) Verb: 1. Treat with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority. 2. Frequent (a store, theater, restaurant, or other establishment) as a customer.

A settlement of differences in which each side makes concessions. b. The result of such a settlement. 2. Something that combines qualities or elements of different things: The incongruous design is a compromise between high tech and early American. 3. A concession to something detrimental or pejorative
  3. I was running one in the 80's when I didn't know any better and there wasn't an affordable equivalent! (It's taken until last year to get the firewall back together tidily). In short order I'd say: Fits well if you can get hold of swan-neck inlet manifold to stop carbs sticking through bonnet. (Engine mounts are flat on the chassis just about, no issue). Sounds bloody good - especially through the Bell pipes (I was living in Swindon at the time so used to pop round and pester them) - and fuel consumption wasn't hideous. Mine was a well-ordered lump and the Spitfire is a light car. Survived OK on a Peugeut radiator (from a 4-door 205 as I recall). Had to chop the tunnel about and point the gearstick strangely to get hold of me knob. Ummm, didn't handle all that well - at all - even on 8" rims and 205's. Happy days! Yes, I will scan some photos one of these days. It's good to own up to the shameful things you did as a kid.  :B
  4. Why dontcha fit a points-less modern equivalent? Blimey, I got tired of telling my passenger to kick the firewall when driving my Morris 1000. (To get the fuel flowing again). There has to be a better way by now....? Chris (T6) got a Huco fuel pump he's pleased with and Facet are everywhere on this site, no? This is something I need to get done (next) say the rolling road blokes, so ......... And yet you're OK on the standard item Roy? Confusin' it is.
  5. Not sure I know what you're on about, this stud with a sliding member stuff. Never had a problem with mine. Have found pumping grease in the back end as and where necessary stops the chattering and moaning. Been having a little holiday btw, lots of Devon cream pies. Sorry to have missed out.  ;)
  6. Hi! Good job Wim. I don't think they are any lower than mine, and mine are still on the car..... Try them out! They're nice and shiny too. I like.  :)
  7. I find this bit interesting, 'cos I've done all this too: 339 wrote:I have glued heat reflective material to the underside of the tunnel (fiberglass), REMOVED the exhaust wrap as it does nothing! made sure that ALL of the holes in the bulkhead are plugged and made sure that the tunnel is properly sealed and then gaffer taped just to make sure. But not this: 339 wrote:I have also used aluminium sheet fixed to the underside of the chassis to deflect any heat from the exhaust system. ....and my car isn't cool (Ahem) under any circumstances, really. Though of course I can put the roof down.  :) Mine has the "original" radiator type and Tim's doesn't.  :-/ Ummm..... Next Royvoy, perhaps we could all get a thermometer out (not in an intrusive way you understand) and have a comparison.
  8. Seems sensible - it will need support up front. Mine's a lot different of course so I can't help with a photo.  :-/
  9. Mine mate? Strombers. I like them! Ever since I had one on my Vauxhall Viva, having had twin SU's on a Morris Minor (1275 engine) and finding them a bit of a trial. For me carbs are something someone else tunes for me, once. Lazy git that I am. Weber's sound - and look - nice though. Neil - mine's a 6 cylinder Spit as you may know, and I reckon an electric fuel pump's what's missing on mine, for a start, if you want yours to pop along a bit...
  10. ^^^ What Bill said about emissions stuff PDU which can be swapped. Can't find the company name I found, damnit, who sell the bits, but quite common, if you're bothered. Re: the triples, naaa, not mine, they're on a TR6. Mine are on the shelf!
  11. PDU - nicely mate! I love the looks of the RamFlo air filters, and I can't believe they went out of business. Tragic. I'd have a set in a minute. (I'd need three of course.  ;) ). Edit: Found this in my little collection. I knew I had one someplace.... They probably don't work very well, but hey, who cares? Oh! And I think you have an emmissions-controlled pair there matey, (American?), with the jets blanked off by sealed units. You can convert them easily enough if you like, by investing with a Strommie parts company.....
  12. Me too. I'd put three on though.  :)
  13. Yeah, they've been there a while and I've never managed to grind them. I guess I'm not trying hard enough eh? You're right though I should turn them around.  ;) Wim - no problem. anything else just shout.  :)
  14. :) Naaaaa, I did them last weekend, but they've been booted about this week and went to Prescott today too. Was just thinking how dusty the pipes look again and so on. oh well.  :-/ ;D ;D
  15. Hmmm, I think TWO straps are the deal on most systems. Here's mine; Rear boxes, face on, with two straps one each side....... The two straps go at the back of the rear valance and are bolted through into the boot: Then farther toward the front, before the "Y", there are two more clamps to the plate that supports the differential: ....at least that's mine! Salutations, hope that helps, if not tell me what else you need. (Memsahib is watching some Opera on telly.....  :-/ ..)....
  16. Wim, this was no good to you? http://club.triumph.org.uk/cgi-bin/forum10/Blah.pl/Blah.pl?m-1333552812/s-0/ Do you need to see where it bolts through into the boot... or.....?

Looks nice Barry, well done. Here is using the IMG codes to post it. If you want to see how just use "quote" on this post and look at how it's arranged. ;)
  18. Hee hee! Made I larf. As I've said, the MX5 seats are nice, supportive and comfy, but I've swapped back 'cos they don't fit with my roll bar. That's it really.
  19. :) It was good to see you mate. John says Hi!
  20. John, are you going to paint it Italian Red for your next trip then?  :P :) In truth, your car has brought me around a bit from the hatred I developed for French Blue (in all the time my car was that colour). Yours looks good. The Stag I saw yesterday in my local garage looked good too. Tastes mature as we age!
  21. You're absolutely right, Hugh. My roll bars in to appease my parents and in-laws, really, since it would be naff-all use in the event of a crash. In any case the rest of the car would fold up around you like a cardboard box anyway! I always drive mine with that in mind. Ain't no airbags, no real SIP and there's no roof, so let's not hit anything.  :)
  22. Pete you're very welcome. I'll PM you.
  23. Good thinking. Memsahibs vote on going back to the original seats is that they're not quite as nice as the MX5 ones. They're not as comfy and they're not as supportive (especially for the shoulders) when turning in sharpish - but she says there's not a lot in it. My vote's that I can now drive the car! No brainer! But once again, it's because I've got the roll bar in. Without the roll bar I reckon I'd stay with the MX5 seats, even though they do look quite "big". Ebay gets my seats listed tomorrow, so someone's gonna get a bargain.  ;)
  24. Nice! I've just found this. I wish I had read it last year.  :-/ http://www.spitfires4fun.com/8.html
  25. Harv, I think I'd buy a cheap set from Ebay and then p/ex them through Ebay again with that bloke who advertises rebuilds, or I'd get a kit in from Park Lane and rebuild them myself. I don't know of someplace to buy them in reasonable/new state without paying an arm and a leg for them... Others might. Depends on the quality you're after I suppose, eh?
