  1. My tweaked engine in the Vitesse is an ME series. I understood the head to have better flowing ports, but otherwise little else different. That said, I decked the block, fitted flat top pistons and planed the head to bring the CR to around 9.5:1 along with a lumpy cam a dn additional head work. So, basically just treated it all as base castings to work with! Sorry, that's probably not much help is it ?! 🤔
  2. I had a 1500 Spitfire fitted with the Sprint engine and TR7 LT77 gearbox. As said, the nearside turret needs shaving for the manifold, the passenger footwell is comprimised slightly for the downpipes and mine also had a shaved front crossmember under the (standard) sump. GT6 bonnet still needed a couple of small bulges for the oil filler cap and front carb dashpot. Bulkhead was stock. It was an absolute flyer and very well balanced. T'was also featured in a Practical Classics article some years ago 😉 , alongside a few others, including Canleys' Macau, TLDs'  2.7l and a Jigsaw prepped 1300  fitted with a Lenham hardtop IIRC
  3. When I fitted a type 9 in my Vitesse, I just used the standard original Sierra rear mount and bolted it to the chassis rails. I guess it's in a slightly different position in a Herald due to the shorter engine? Shouldn't be difficult to make any brackets if you need them.
  4. I've got one of those vacuum brake bleeding kits. It also does a very good job of sucking out the diff oil
  5. What lift pump are you using? Have you checked the height of the float in the float chamber?
  6. Front exhaust bracket? Mine just has one hanging off the diff and another at the rear valance 🤔
  7. That's interesting JohnD, when I put the tweaked engine in my Vitesse, I also went for a modern Aluminium Honda Civic radiator just like the one you're showing. I'm buggered if it would keep my engine cool though :/ I'm now running a modified Ford Escort RS2000 radiator, which is almost 30% bigger in surface area and it still struggles
  8. Regardless of who made them, they're never gonna fit under the arches of a Herald/Vitesse with that offset!
  9. In a previous life I ran 185/70 13's on 5.5" Revolution 4 spokes from MWS on my MK2 Vitesse saloon Occassionally they would rub on the bump stop bracket and i definitely had to massage the wheel arch lip a bit, but it's not impossible. I don't know what the offset was though
  10. Yes John, Approx 3" extensions on the rear and 2" on the front
  11. I took a slightly more extreme method
  12. The engine currently in my Vitesse is ME 9xxxx which was from a manual 2000 saloon and had a 218 cylinder head, domed pistons and a recessed block. Quite a bit later down the line than yours though

    Vitesse EFI

The fuel rails are slightly lower than the K&N air filters and dashpots on the carbs, so clearance under the bonnet is enough. The rear TB to bulkhead might be a bit closer, but seeing as the rest of the car is nowhere near standard, I'm not adverse to relieving it a bit for clearance if needed  ;)

Nick_Moore wrote:Impressive. We will be watching with interest, Mr Speedy.  Is your engine still 2L? What diameter are the 675 throttle bodies? Nick, the engine these will be going is a late ME series saloon engine which has had a +060" bore, lightened and balanced crank, rods, and pistons, reworked head, flat top pistons and a Kent TH7 camshaft The throttle bodies are approx 42mm diameter at the manifold end

    Vitesse EFI

It is visually deceptive, but the new inlet runners I've made are only half an inch longer than the stock Vitesse manifold! With the throttle bodies being considerably more compact than the CD150's and K&N filters I used to be running, there'll be plenty of room, even with the ram pipes fitted.

    Vitesse EFI

I thought some of you might be interested in the latest phase of developments on my Vitesse. I've now actively started fitting it with EFI. I'll be using Megasquirt management, Triumph 675 Daytona throttle bodies on custom inlet manifolds, and I'll also be making a new 6-3-1 exhaust manifold to get the most out of it.

Nick_Jones wrote: Does your input shaft actually reach the spigot bush?  There are definite examples where the short shaft 1.8/2.0 box has been used and the input shaft stops short of the spigot bush.  This could well vary according to the adaptor plate used and the style/location of the spigot bush but the evidence suggests that some "kits" do need the longer shaft to work properly. Nick Yes, the shaft does reach the bush, as I had to machine a new bush to suit. To be fair though, I made my own adapters, so it was all calculated to ensure the 'box I used fitted up properly. It depends which route you want to go down
  18. I converted my Vitesse to type 9 some years ago, and never looked back. Contrary to belief, you don't 'NEED' the V6 box. I used a 1.8 box and everything matched up perfectly. Using a 2.0l friction plate transmits the drive, but a custom propshaft is needed.
  19. I sold my old broken (exploded 3rd gear) OD box, dismantled, for £75 a few years ago. So a working one must be worth at least a deuce
  20. I've used an adjustable Sytec 0-5 psi with good results for the last 3 years
  21. I fitted an electronic pump to my Vitesse 3 years ago, and it's been faultless. I fitted it for three main reasons; I don't like the mechanical pumps on the engine and the heat transfer to the fuel. Modern elctronic pumps are more reliable than the mechanical ones imo, and also off another security devise to immobilise the car to prevent theft I fitted an uprated engine so wanted to ensure fuel delivery was up to speed. I'll be going EFI soon, so it'll all have to be changed anyway, but the current electric pump will be used to fill the swirl pot
  22. Rebuild kits are available, but a complete pump won't be much more!
  23. I made my own nylon bushes with stainless sleeves for lower trunnion mounts and used generic poly bushes elsewhere. All fitted about 3-4 years ago and still going strong
  24. If you're fitting a new timing chain, fit new sprockets as well.# Tbh, they really want changing anyway, as the cam sprocket is already showing signs of wear. For the extra £30 or so for a pair of sprockets, it's not worth chancing imo
  25. I ran Gaz all round on my Sprintfire, and I run Gaz on the front of the Vitesse. (Spax on the rear, but they were cheap!) Never had any issues with them, and very reasonably priced
