Calorian
Hey guys,Just a quick question. Ive got some 5-spoke stag/2500 alloys that Im restoring up ready for my next car and I wondering whether the rim itself needs to be painted in order to seal the tyre properly?I cant look at the others as they all seem to differ and I want to make sure its right, what with the previous blow out - I dont want anything of the like happening again. Any ideas?Cheers.Garreth
Lord Sorbington
Very often on old alloys, the rim will slightly porous and your tyres will go flat after a few weeks. Most tyre places will put a bead of sealant where they tyre meets the rim prior to fitting the tyre. Paint would help but not sure it would be enough. Tim Bancroft
The GKN Stag/2500S alloys have a bad reputation for leaking air through the porous alloy.I would def. paint them. Clean as much as possible and apply a few coats of good paint - not Hammerite.
James
as they're alloy clean them up and use a decent acid etch primer
