marktheherald
Having posted a rather long-winded query in the Herald section and not getting any replies, I thought I would try a basic question here in the tech. section... What effect would a stuck-open inlet non-return valve have in an AC type fuel pump? Mark.
gilesdive
Bottom line, if the non-return valve is stuck open, it won't pump. The diaphragm will suck fuel from the tankas it goes one way.Going the other, instead of being forced to push the fuel towards the engine, the fuel will take the path of least resistance - some of it might go towards the engine, but I suspect most of it will go back towards the fuel tank. marktheherald
Thanks for your input folks, I don't know how long the valve has been stuck open, but performance (twin Stroms on a 1500) has not been affected. It just seems to have been very thirsty. I don't know if that is anything to do with the stuck valve, but I shall monitor mileage with the replacement pump and post an outcome result when I can.
