Hi all, just bought an N reg Toledo in need of a bit of TLC.

All electrics were working fine when I drove it home, however, I now find that the temp / fuel gauge isn't working and neither are the indicators. I've looked at the fuse in the engine bay and it seems fine, any ideas anyone?

Have you tested it and the holder it sits in, these things have a tendancy to corrode. I'm not familiar with the Toledo wiring diagram but you'd do well to find a manual and trace the wires to see if they are indeed "related"

All these items are powered from the voltage stabiliser, these do fail.  Its a rectangular metal can either attached to the back of one of the instruments or in the engine bay close to the fuse box.  Find it and measure the output (input side will be battery voltage).  If it has failed either get a 2nd hand one or join the Dolomite Club and get one of their excellent remanufactured units.  I recommend the latter.

I had the same problem with Tara - turned out to be a 'sloppy' (and rather oxidised) spade connector to the fuse junction-box. Give all the connectors a wiggle; you'll soon see if that's the cause of the problem. It wouldn't hurt to clean all the terminals, while your at it, anyway.

You will find the paint code on the VIN plate which is on the nearside inner wing. I know of a few websites that list all the Triumph paint codes:

http://www.triumphspitfire.com/Paint.html

I hope this is of some help.

A new one would cost you 'silly money'. Unless you're going for the concours trophy - don't bother; have a rummage around a few auto-jumbles - there's plenty of them out there. There's always eBay, of course; again, they appear quite regularly. You shouldn't have to pay more than a 'tenner' for one.
Just make sure it is the guage that's at fault before you replace it... they're rather robust units and don't usually fail.
The wiring couldn't be any simpler, and they're only held in by a couple of clamps with knurled nuts (finger friendly).
