heraldcoupe
Sorting through a plastic crate of old-stock parts, I have found a batch of unused clutch release bearings. The problem is that these were completely submerged in water, and have been for several weeks at least. The bearings all appear undamaged, but there is evidence of grease being washed out of them. Can I reclaim these? Is there a way I can re-grease them? They (obviously!) aren't going to be sold, but if I can use them on my own cars I will be happy with that. I always hate wasting good parts,Cheers,Bill. gravelrash
You could try the old bike chain trick. Put a load of grease in a big pot, sit on top of a stove until grease is almost liquid then drop bearings into grease. Leave for a while before fishing out. Prob be ok.Ade
heraldcoupe
That's pretty much what I was thinking off, looks like I'm on the right wavelength. Any recommendations on the most suitable type of grease, I have all sorts here....Cheers,Bill.
gravelrash
Something with a decent graphite contentand of a reasonably high melting point. Wheel bearing grease should do the job.Ade
