Sam C
Hi everyoneJust washed my K & N filters in some warm soapy water and about a tonne of gunk was washed out so it was worth doing. I have in the back of my mind that you're supposed to cover them in some sort of oil once you've cleaned them - is this right and if so what oil should use / can you use something else that I'll have knocking around in my garage / can you get away with not using this oil at all?Cheers
willcolumbine
Yeah, you are supposed to oil them and of course, if K&N are to be believed, you must only use K&N oil otherwise your whole car will explode in a ball of flames... In reality though, probably any light oil would be fine!
ferny
Make sure you get every bit of soap out.You are meant to oil them as the oil helps trap the dirt. K&N sell some for the job (you can also buy a cleaner and oil kit) and you should be able to get it from most shops and also online. A very thin mineral oil should work too but that's an assumption. I can't see why it wouldn't be ok.
