Maggie13
My exhaust ports still have some pitting after lapping so I was wondering if they need repairing should I get hardened seats for unleaded petrol or for a car not used too often is it really needed? Any idea of how much it costs in total?
RobPearce
If you're having head work done anyway then it's worth getting the inserts - they don't add much cost and the newly-machined head would otherwise lack the "lead memory" that makes unleaded conversions usually unnecessary. Sorry, I don't remember what my Toledo's head rebuild cost.
glang
And, if you ever come to sell the car, for some buyers proof of valve seat replacement is quite desirable...
Clive
For prices you need to contact local machine shops, it seems location dependant to a certain degree. And get a 3 angle seat cut too if you go down that route.
glang
Out of interest Clive, I know the 3 angle cut is good for gas flow but is the downside that the risk of losing valve seat seal (ie pitting, burning, wear etc) is greater?
