Bradison
Good evening, So the RBRR took its toll on my already tired engine. I have a 72 MK2 2.5PI... well that's the body of the car, the engine on the other hand is an unknown entity. I'm pretty sure its an S engine, so sticking with what I have as my pockets aren't as deep as others what modifications can I start planning on? I have heard a few things, however having never rebuilt an engine I have to confess I am not sure if there are other options available. What I have heard of is using a 348 s-head and a TR5 cam (as this could assist in increasing the ponies substantially). Are there any other mods anyone has applied to their own engines that wont break the bank?
Clive
Essentially you wish to build a TR5 spec engine? If so the head (if it is the 2500S head) will want the CR increasing by skimming. And 3 angle valve seats. Plus you will want a TR5 distributor, or at least yours modifying to match the TR5 advance (though thesedays I think it would be a little different as fuel has changed) I am sure you may be able to find many of the parts you need in a shed in Sussex...

Tim Bancroft
Hi Bradley, I'd go simple: As Clive states, plus rebuilt carbs and dizzy. New timing gear, new front pulley and if money is there a lightened flywheel and full engine balance
