sahtuning2000 Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 went to start my car, stone cold, and it just turned over, didn,t fire, when i felt the coil,i almost burn,t my hand!!!!so i disconnected battery etc and wires etc,the coil is new(although it did say tested 8/2000!!)but does say fit with ballest,i don,t have one, will a sports coil be fine, and on my old coil it said CB/SW,what is plus/minus,and what one goes to the dizzy(short wire to dizzy body, from coil, other wire is in loom)advise needed urgent,as the new owner had to help me push it to park it up!!i guess the wire from coil to dizzy is the CB(CONTACT BREAKER)?any help would be great, maybe i wired up the conections the wrong way round, but i did fit it 3 months ago?
sahtuning2000 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 forgot to say its positive earth(i think it still is)
James Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 If it were overheating whilst running then I would suspect a faulty ignition system... points not opening long enough... dodgy rotor arm.Otherwise - it's a 6v coil as needed by a ballast resistor - so essentially you are putting 12v through it.
sahtuning2000 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 bought new coil/points etc today, old coil was 9v with no ballast, turns out that i left ignition on(car not running )for 20 mins, and the points where shut!!!so there was a complete circuit
Deleted User Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 CB stands for "contact breaker" ie that side of the coils goes to the points
