Tim Bancroft Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Anyone know if it is possible to fit 6J wheels on to a mk1 that has mk1 driveshafts fitted. I want to fit some Revolution wheels to the grey car and can only get 6J width in 15'' dia wheels. Now this might seem a silly question, but will I upset the brake balance of the car if I was to only fit stag brakes to the front of the car? After the Track day at Mallory, I reckon I need to sort the brakes out on my car and Stag parts seem the most logical upgrade.
DaveKent Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 tim, nigel gair runs 6 or seven inch compomotive rev lookalikes on mk2 shafts. admittedly he's dressed his arches, but you shouldn't need to with mk1 shafts
Richard B Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Tim, we had a set of 14 x 7J Mini-lites on a MkI saloon with a MkII rear end. I cannot remember the tyres I think they were 205/65 or 60. They were too low profile for my tastes. They did fit, but it depends on the off-set. Expensive to "buy & try", but you might have to. Good luck.Ask Chris Witor, he is the guru..........
tr6driver Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I'm in the process of doing the same thing (substituting Stag brakes on the front only...) Of course, mine will only be used on the street!Jamie67 2000 Mk. I Estatehttp://2000estate.blogspot.com
Tim Bancroft Posted April 17, 2006 Author Posted April 17, 2006 Thanks chaps, Nigel has 6J 15'' revolutions fitted and I am rather hoping he pops along to The Plough tonight- I think they would fit- however as Richard states- a bit of an expensive experiment! Might have a chat with Chris Witor tomorrow.
shenderson Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Stag brakes on the front only should be OK, not the other way round - the last thing you want is the rear wheels locking before the fronts.7 x 14 wheels fitted with 215/60 tyres will fit with MKII shafts, but spacers might be required, depending on the offset.Steve
