Vitesse Overdrive Conversion

Hello good people 🙂

The clutch has gone on my Vitesse, just as I was starting to get to know the old girl!

In the 7 months that I have owned the car I have been building a stash of parts for an overdrive conversion, which was to be my winter project. But now it looks like that's a summer project, I'm going to crack on with it starting this weekend.

I reckon I've got all the parts needed, and armed with a workshop manual, I'm confident of success. The only part that's troubling me a little is the wiring side of things. I have a new loom and relay so it can't be that hard, but does anyone have any pictures or info on the wiring and siting of the relay. Does it go on the bulkhead under the bonnet? Or under the dash somewhere?

Any help, advice, experience appreciated.

J type or Dtype overdrive?  Column or gear stick switch?
Full new loom or just the extra bit for the overdrive?

I fitted a Jtype to my Vitesse.  Here is a page from the workshop manual for the D type.

Be careful when rebuilding the column not to trap any wires as adding in the overdrive makes for a tight fit in places.

The relay is very important for the D-type and needs to be a hefty brute. Get an original one.
