Overdrive gushing oil

Doing a restoration of a 1500 spitfire, I've had the engine and gearbox out but no tinkering, just new clutch. I also took out the speedo angle drive to refit cable.

Started engine and major oil leak from the area of the solenoid/cable. Lost pretty much all the oil in a few seconds. I can't see where the oil comes from as it is behind the mounting plate.

Could it be coming from the angle drive? Maybe I missed out a seal or something?

Not coming out from a bolt head? I know of a local who fitted a P clip under one of the OD to adaptor plate boltheads, caused chaos similar to what you are suggesting. Think he missed the copper washer? (memory not great on exact details)

Did you actually disturb anything at all on the gearbox apart from the speedo cable/drive?
