glaramaraman
"Round Britain" has always struck me as a bit of an odd title for the run. It doesn't visit Wales or Ireland and seems to be more of an elongated triangle. However, I hope to find some one mad enough to join me so that in 2006 I can know more about what I'm saying :XNonetheless, how about a run that Starts in the middle Meridan ( read Fillongly Canley Classics ) and then visits in whatever order the furthest North South East and Western most points of the mainland. Dunnet Head, Lizard Point, Lowestoft, and Ardnamurchan ??.... and perhaps there could be the odd night stop over for socialising and rest along the way! Deleted User
Fine idea in principle until you head for Ardnamurchan.90 cars going both ways on a 30 mile long single track road may cramp the style, not to mention safety, of the event.Stunning place though.Well worth a visit - on a sunny day. ;)
Tim Bancroft
The RBRR does visit Wales, for the last 3 we have gone through the Forest of Dean and Chepstow. This year we may head towards Welshpool etc. after Oswestry.Obviously Ireland is out, no time and more money- it is a relatively cheap event to enter. Rumpith
I've got no problem with avoiding Wales (I'm afraid I'm with Anne Robinson on this one - no offence to any Welsh members out there!)
Tim Bancroft
Its not about the names of perception of places that this event is about it is simply about the roads that we get to drive, some of the roads we use are amongst the best in Britain.I defy anyone not to enjoy the A466 from Monmouth to Chepstow which runs through the Forest of Dean, we go through there at approx. 1.30 on the Sunday morning- no traffic just fast corners driving besides the River Wye- fantastic. Greeks
Hmmm, I'm still gutted that I slept through that entire section of the run.Highlight for me was the single track road in northern Scotland, but perhaps if I'd been awake ...
Deleted User
Even if my eyes were practically bleeding by the time we got to Gordano :o ....I even managed to "Recce" that section in Jimmy Elliotts PI a week earlier on the pretence of "sightseeing" with my wife at Tintern Abbey. It's much faster in the dark ;D with Nige as co-driver (less screaming)
Tim Bancroft
The route will not be changed much as it is already very good and as can be imagined the timing does not allow for much revision- evolution not revolution!Possible mods to the route could be in Cumbria, Wales and Dorset/Hampshire- of course the details of these will not be made known until the RoadBook is handed out at the DMs.
rcap
Of course remembering Tim that you turn Right onto the little bridge on the way back down from John O'Groats NOT straight on down the dodgy track with the sheep in the road!
Tim Bancroft
Blimey, i forgot Rob, Richard and Pete were following me at this point in Richard's Vitesse. I don't know one mistake and you get castigated!Rob, When can I expect your RBRR using your nearly completed GT6?
rcap
I am down working on the GT6 this Sunday. Things have moved a little slowly on it the past month or so as I am just going through moving house but now thats nearly done and dusted I can get back onto the car. Just the refitting of the spanking new interior and a few small jobs and she should be ready for her MOT.Providing I get a good month of near faultless motoring then you can expect the entry very soon! providing i sort out a willing / Mad Co-Driver!
