astrocan
The diff on my Mk1 2000 is leaking and I wanted to change the seals. I have picked up another diff which I plan to open up, check over, replace the seals and spend a pleasant afternoon swapping them over. For starters how easy is it to change the seals on a diff that is on the bench (garage floor)? But my main problem is the new diff is from a later model and has different brackets and fixings. Can I replace the seals in the new diff, take out the old one, swap the back covers and backets so that the new diff will fit?I geuss that this will be more than a pleasant afternoon but my main reason for wanting to do it this way is so that the car spends as little time off the road as possible. Richard B
Yep the backs are interchangable, but you need a new gasket. The Mk I diff is better located in the body than the Mk II, ps Stags and all Estates have the same diff mount position as the Mk I.
astrocan
CheersI'll get a new gasket and some mounts and crack on then.Any idea how easy/difficult it is to replace the seals?
Greeks
I asked the same question a little while back ... have a look through, or search for 'seals' on this section of the forum.Worth checking the breather isn't blocked and you haven't over-filled with oil. Apologies if you've already done this ;-)Weather's nice out :-)
