Doig
Aren't the best car probs always intermittant.Anyhow the car sometimes makes an whirring noise when the cluch is pushed in (ie while changing gears). I did a long trip recently and nearing the end this problem came up again, it then stopped shortly after the return trip.My thoughts would be the throw out bearing (but why doesn't it happen all the time then )Or is it the more worrying crank shaft end float type problem? mikeyb
Hmmn, difficult to diagnose without hearing it, but I would think it is most likely to be associated with either the clutch cover plate or release bearing. The reasons for being intermittent could depend on the load it's under or ambient conditions/temperature etc.I would expect crank end float if bad to manifest a knocking sound if the engine is revved hard, and also on cold start up. valencia1
yeah, probably the thrust bearing. if you are concerned about the end float get someone to depress the clutch while you observe the the movement of the front pulley, i believe upto 10 thou is acceptable dependind on modelregards, bryan
