Hoopsontoast
I need a new one for my Gold 1983 Acclaim 'L'. Any idea of good places to go or what the correct part number is? I have seen a few online but they all have different numbers.Cheers, Rob :)
ferny
I got my Triomatic one record. Probably costs about the same as a new one unless you can pick one up cheap on eBay etc?
Hoopsontoast
there is one on ebay for £60, or some on websites for £90ish. how much is a rad re-core? :)
mikeyb
last one I had done was Dolly Sprint - cost £140 cash
Hoopsontoast
Ah cool, sounds like it might be cheaper to go for a new one (as long as they are the right ones) although the Acclaim's rad is about half the size of the dolly sprint! ;)
ferny
Mr recore was slightly over around £120. But a Triomatic has a heat exchanger in it for the gearbox which a manual car doesn't use.
Toledo Man
It might not need a recore. Is there somebody who can recommend a good local radiator specialist? I know a good one in Bradford. When I had overheating problems with Blue I got my spare rad repaired and repainted (didn't need a recore) for £25 and got the old one repaired for £10 (that didn't need a recore either). A triomatic rad will fit the manual cars (I had one in Becky) but you might have problems with the top hose as it's also different to the manual cars. If you get a replacement radiator make sure you carry over your cooling fan as later ones have slightly different connectors. Also, make sure the thermoswitch is working.Pete, does Ashley have a rad in the ex-Guru's spares collection?
ferny
I'm 95% certain he doesn't.
Hoopsontoast
Just been quoted to get my Rad reconditioned and that would be £115 +VAT +DEL.Would ideally like to get a new Rad or get a duff one and re-core it as the Acclaim is used daily and i need to use it while getting a new one.EDIT- This one seems to be for a Honda, but the EN4 engine, which i believe is the one in the Acclaim?http://www.kempstonradiators.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=kempston&Product_Code=62260cAs well as this one, which looks the same but longer (better cooling??)http://www.kempstonradiators.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=kempston&Product_Code=62265bAnd the same as here-http://www.audicarpartsuk.co.uk/p2177480/TRIUMPH-ACCLAIM-19810-19852-1.3-Petrol-1982-1985-Radiator-engine-cooling/product_info.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=Make-Model-Product :)
Clive
I reckon something like a pugeot 205/206 rad may well be a similar size. there are plenty on ebay, I know new polo rads can be had for about £25 (used in 150bhp kitcars, so must be pretty good)
Toledo Man
The Kempston Radiators one looks like a good match for the Acclaim. Yes, the Acclaim has the EN4 engine so it would probably fit. The quote you got would be about right if you got the rad recored. It'll need recoring if a lot of the cooling fins are missing/damaged. If the rad's just leaking then it'll be much cheaper to fix. You need to asses the condition of your rad. The part number for the radiator is BNP1971 (manual) or BNP2251 (Triomatic)
Hoopsontoast
Ah cool, got word back and the ones on that site are discontinued although they can re-core it for £88+VAT.The fins don't seem to be damaged, but it just leaks from most of the left hand side of the Rad, mostly at the top.
