Richard B
J' Type has a large nut securing the solenoid to the O/D 1'' AF.A' Type has two small bolts securing the solenoid to the O/D.A'Type requires a relay in the wiring loom as the current draw is about 8 amps, the J' Type is lower (2 - 4 amps?) so it does not need a relay.D' Type was really for up to 1600 cc, A type was up to 3 Litre. D type is pushing it with a 2 litre 100bhp, and when you put 150bhp through a D'Type well........ J' Type was more modern & replaced both the D & A. Mj17
Anyone know what the overdrive wiring SHOULD look like? The very early wire diagrams list it but then they just give up.I think I've got a J-Type (MGxxxxx 2.5PI) and was chasing the wires through but they quickly become the (less than spectacular) work of a PO. I think the solenoid is held on by a single nut but I was being distracted by rust at the time :(Also is it a gearbox out job to get to the overdrive inhibitor switch?
